The beginning is my favorite part, the blank slate, the imagining of all the possibilities // I’ve been in this flower world for so long it can be difficult to remember what it was like to arrange at home for fun, with little experience or knowledge of florist mechanics and tricks of the trade. But, I can remember feeling overwhelmed by all the design possibilities instead of inspired by them. How would I get the flowers to stay where I placed them? What if I cut all the stem...s too short and it just looked stuffed into the vase, and for that matter, which flowers should be the first to go in and which the last? What if I wasn’t processing each flower type properly causing their untimely death? How was I to find flowers that were as beautiful as so many photos I had seen, rather than the often tired-looking mixed color bunches at the grocery store? Why did my arrangements look so much busier than the professionals?
