*GOOD TO KNOW INFO* If your debit card has been unexplainably denied by a merchant in the last several months, it may have to do with the EMV Chip compliance mandate which finalized this year. As of April 17, 2021, all merchants, including gas pumps, were required to upgrade their pay terminals to be EMV chip compliant. There are still many small businesses who are not using an EMV terminal, which may effect your ability to make a card purchase with them. If you are denied at a merchant, ask them how they are running your card. If they do not have an EMV chip reader, simply request they KEY ENTER your card into their terminal to receive an authorization for your purchase. If you are still having approval issues, contact the credit union for additional possible denial reasons.
