We can’t contain our excitement over how Mutual Housing California's Lavender Courtyard is progressing! Sacramento’s very first LGBTQ+ affordable senior housing community is taking shape on the corner of 16th and F streets in Downtown Sacramento. We designed this project with future residents in mind, ensuring that the building foster a sense of community and inclusion. Many of those who will inhabit this 53-unit project will be coming directly from homelessness, a situation ...that affects nearly 10% of all LGBT seniors at some point in time. If you are fortunate enough to be a ULI Sacramento YLG (Young Leaders Group) member, you can get an up-close look at the project during their next Beer and Buildings Tour on November 18th. Check out their profile for more info! Ps. Thank you to Sunseri Associates Inc. for this amazing footage! #affordablehousing #lgbtq #lgbt #lgbtqhousing #sacramento #lavendercourtyard #homlessness #homelesshousing #northerncalifornia #multifamily #development #architecture

In addition to May being #MayisBikeMonth, it is also #AffordableHousingMonth! Designing livable, comfortable, community-oriented affordable housing is integral to Mogavero Architects’ purpose and is the drive behind so much of what we do. A lot goes in to designing affordable housing and we constantly strive to make our affordable developments feel like home. Here is a peek inside a few of our past affordable developments: Lohse Apartments in Roseville, California (Mercy Hou...sing) Bartlett Commons in Davis, California (CFY Development) 7th and H in Sacramento, California (Mercy Housing) Main Street Plaza in Roseville, California (Meta Housing) Check out the link in our bio for a list of events being hosted in celebration of affordable housing month!

#MayIsBikeMonth, Sacramento! While most of us are still working remotely during this pandemic (and thus, not commuting), we’ll never miss an excuse to celebrate the incredible bike-able landscape of the valley we call home. Take a look at these cool shots from our Principal, Renner, from some of his many adventures by bike. Biking to work, to school, on errands or just for leisure can reduce your #carbonfootprint and improve your mood! Bicycle parking and access, as well as an emphasis on other green transit options, has been a fundamental aspect of many of our projects over the years. #Sacramento #SABA #greenbuilding #reducewaste #architecture #landscape #california #sacbikes #bikelife #greentransportation #ecofriendly

We are proud to have one of our very own, Joanna Mack, serve an integral part of shaping local and regional policies! As a part of Urban Land Institute Sacramento Health and Social Equity Task Force, Joanna and the team developed a community toolkit that empowers residents to engage in neighborhood decision-making by providing guidance on a range of issues, including project funding, budgeting, site activation, and development approvals. The ULI Sacramento taskforce showcas...ed how the legacy of inequitable land use and transportation decisions has contributed to rising health and economic disparities in Meadowview, a South Sacramento neighborhood. This information is available in ULI's newest report series entitled Change for Good which chronicles efforts to drive equitable, health-focused improvements across the county. Access the summary of the Meadowview Toolkit and all of the other Change for Good series takeaways and find out how you can apply these lessons in your own city. https://bit.ly/3ceY1Er #ULIChangeForGood #ULI #UrbanLandInstitute #AffordableHousing #CaliforniaHousing #Neighborhood #SouthSacramento #Sacramento

Happy #TransDayOfVisibility! Take a look at this expertly, thoughtfully written piece by Joanna Parker about the relationship (or current lack thereof) between those of trans experience and the architecture world. "And yet, the depth of bodily and experiential difference largely seems to be missing from architectural education. We were taught to adhere rigorously to regulations concerning accessibility, for example, but we never got to hear from a disabled person about... those regulations. Rather, they were handed down to us as authoritative documents, a set of rules that we had to trust with no further explanation. This approach is also reflected in recent strategies to accommodate trans people in the built environment. There’s been a recent move towards creating unisex toilets, but I never saw any exploration of why that was necessary, or what the implications of this shift might be. People who have always fit a cisnormative conception of gender are divorced from the difficulties of trying to exist in these afterthought-spaces, and from the trauma of moving through an environment where your very presence can be a provocation." Here is a drone shot courtesy of Creekside Commercial Builders of the nearly-completed Main Street Plaza project in Old Town Roseville. This project has 65 units made up of 1, 2 and 3-bedroom floor plans and will be the home for low-income families, veterans and folks with special needs. Meta Housing is furnishing 35 units to equip households coming directly from homelessness. Residents are already moving in and it’s anticipated that all units will be leased by the end of Feb...ruary 2021. Congrats to the whole team for their success on this one!

It is with the heaviest heart that we share news of the passing of Kelley Koll (Wood), who was an integral part of the Mogavero Architects team for several years. Kelley was a wonderful human being who was full of positive attitude and good spirit. She was adored by all who worked within and alongside our firm. Many of you may remember how creative she was, how kindly and patiently she treated others, and how warmly she greeted each person who walked through our doors. Kelley’s impact on us was tremendous and unforgettable. We are forever grateful to have known her. She is dearly missed.
