December 5th, 2020 marked the city's 89th Holiday Parade. This year we flipped gears from the city's beloved traditional parade to an event that could be celebrated in the midst of today’s pandemic. This years Cruise parade was enjoyed by approximately 2,500 cars and over 10,000 spectators! We loved seeing all your faces aglow with excitement as you cruised passed the light displays, wished Santa a ‘Merry Christmas’ and caught snowflakes at Rockin' Holiday! Your joy is ou...r reason why. A huge ‘Thank You’ is just a small token of our immense appreciation for the businesses and groups that supported our efforts to bring a little holiday spirit to Modesto this season. We couldn’t have done it without the displays, our event partners and our presenting sponsor Crystal Creamery. To the MODESTO POLICE DEPARTMENT, THANK YOU, for your continued support! We appreciate you! Thank you Modesto, for your overwhelming support and the holiday flair you brought to the cruise parade with your festive lights, hats, sweaters and jammies. Thank you for celebrating the season with us! We wish you all a happy and merry holiday season and look forward to next year, Modesto's 90th Holiday Parade!

At this time, the difficult decision has been made to cancel the 2020 Celebration of Lights Parade. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 and physical distancing guidelines, we like many communities will not be able to host our traditional parade in downtown Modesto this year. The Modesto Holiday Parade tradition began in 1931 with a daytime parade sponsored by the Modesto Merchants Association. The Parade transitioned to an evening parade in 1996 and became known as the Celebration... of Lights Parade, sponsored the past 11 years by Crystal Creamery. While the parade as we know it may be cancelled, the holiday season is not! We are actively exploring alternative options that will allow everyone to celebrate safely. We as a department, look forward to the return of our traditional parade format for the 90th Celebration of Lights Parade, next year. Stay tuned for more information!
