With the assistance of Modesto Police Department and the Stanislaus Regional Fire Investigation Unit, 59-year-old transient David Riccio was arrested and charged for one count of setting fire to vegetation at the Tuolumne River Regional Park in South Modesto on Sunday evening. Two separate fires had been reported between 8 and 9 PM on Sunday, but it is unknown if both fires were set by Riccio. Throughout the summer, there have been several small fires set at the park causing concern. The Modesto Fire Department has recently focused their attention on clearing brush and debris from the park to prevent a larger fire from occurring in the area. As a reminder, please stay alert and if you see anyone creating a fire hazard, please contact dispatch at 209-552-2470
