How to Stop Spam Calls!
As the COVID-19 crisis continues, scammers are using this as an opportunity to take advantage of consumers. The Ventura Police Department encourages you to stay... informed by visiting https://www.ftc.gov/coronavirus/scams-consumer-advice and to review the following tips to protect yourself: Ignore online offers for vaccinations, there are no products proven to treat or prevent COVID-19 at this time. Don’t respond to texts, emails, or calls about checks from the government and never provide personal/account information over the phone. No one will call or text you to verify information before releasing funds, this is a scam. Watch for emails claiming to be from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization. Don’t click on links from sources you don’t know or emails/texts you aren’t expecting to receive. Do your homework before donating. Never donate in cash, by gift card, or by wiring money. Be cautious if you’re feeling pressured to share information or make a payment immediately. If you believe you have been the victim of a scam in which you have suffered financial loss, contact the Ventura Police Department at 805-650-8010. If you have not suffered financial loss and you have not provided any personal information by phone, please report the call to the Federal Trade Commission at 1-877-FTC-HELP or visit ftc.gov/complaint
