Oceano Dunes, CA - The ACCESS FOR ALL peaceful demonstration will take place at 2pm on SUNDAY March 14, 2021, on the sand just off the Grand Ave entrance to the park. Valerie Mercado and Lisa Kruitbosch with the Pismo Beach Chamber of Commerce will kick-off the demonstration followed by several other organizations, business owners and leaders in the surrounding communities that are opposed to the California Coastal Commission's 5 year plan to remove OHV and camping recreation from Oceano Dunes SVRA. For full agenda go to pismochamber.com. Speakers will take the stage from 2pm - 4pm. Our ultimate goal is to bring attention to the March 18, 2021 California Coastal Commission Special Meeting. Following our speakers we will assemble our Hands Across Oceano Dunes which will take place right before sunset at 7pm. The line-up will begin promptly at 6pm. Everyone will be required to wear a mask and bring their own gloves (attendees will position themselves like they are holding hands and forming a line along the Dunes closest to the water). The starting point will be the farthest North side of the beach that you are able to drive on (in front of Fin's). This is open to everyone interested in supporting "Access for All". Attendees not able to receive vehicle access please feel free to park in the vicinity and walk down. Gill Family provides helipad for fire support. Have you seen the amazing birds in the sky just east of Exeter? TCFB Board member and rancher Brian Gill share...s the following story of how those big giant choppers ended up just outside of Exeter. It started last Monday the 14th when the Gill family received a call asking if our land would be available to stage the overflow helicopters from the Porterville Fairground IC (Incident Command). The main reason they were interested is the short turnaround time to Blue Ridge being 5 miles instead of 25 miles and gradual elevation gain was optimal for rotor winged aircraft. There is also an added bonus of green Bermuda and Salt Grass that covers our shipping fields nearest to our corrals and water supply. The grazed green grass field was the perfect for the helicopters to land without small dust and debris being blown around and running through the engine. By Tuesday morning we had a motor grader there and built road down for the 10,000 gallon fuel truck to get down to fuel the Chinook Helicopter. There are usually around 8 or 10 helicopters landing and taking off during a day. The National Guard has a few Blackhawks used to fight the castle fire. A few smaller ranger helicopters also. While our most experienced firefighting family member Levi Gill has been running dozer on the Creek Fire and now he is fighting the Castle Fire helping to protect Three Rivers. Fred, Teresa, Levi, & Brian Gill have made sure the ranch hands and grove managers are now putting their skills to work making sure that CalFire has everything to run the helicopter base at our ranch headquarters in Yokohl Valley.
