A year ago, many Mistral and Castro Elementary families (as well as thousands more across MVWSD and Santa Clara County) did not have internet access at home. The Mistral PTA is grateful for the leadership of Mistral community members and PTA members Devon Conley and Jorge Pacheco Jr., and the other leaders who formed the Digital Equity Coalition to help advocate for solutions to this problem. https://www.facebook.com/1920330438242971/posts/3041174319491905/?d=n

From this week’s MVWSD Supt’s eNews: Congratulations to Zoe Minhas, a 6th grader at Crittenden and a Mistral alumna who participated in the 8th National Symposium on Spanish as a Heritage Language and won in the pre-university category. Students were encouraged by Crittenden Spanish teacher Ms. Pederson to submit their poems, stories, and essays. Zoe competed in the high school group and is the first middle school student to participate. Her winning story will be published on the Symposium's website. https://8nsshl2021.commons.gc.cuny.edu

The Ofrenda for Dia de los Muertos is ready for visitation from 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM today and tomorrow! Thank you to our wonderful parent volunteers who built and decorated the ofrenda. The Ofrenda is a place where we can visit with our loved ones who have passed away and celebrate with them in death as we did in life. When you visit, please be sure to wear a mask and stay at least 6 feet apart from people who don’t live in your household. In normal years, our community celebrates Dia de los Muertos (an important holiday in Mexico and several other Latin American countries) with a big party, music, dancing, traditional food, and an incredible Ofrenda in our school MUR. This year we must find a way to celebrate in a COVID-approved way. Our amazing volunteer leaders will still be building an Ofrenda this year outdoors, in the front of our school in the community garden. The Ofrenda will be decorated and open fo...r a visitation on Saturday, October 31 and Sunday November 1 from 12PM until 8PM. All visitors should wear masks and observe social distancing if 6 ft between people from other households or social pods. Please also be respectful of the Ofrenda, as it is a labor of love and an important symbol of our memory and continuing care of loved ones who have passed on. https://www.google.com///mexico/top-ten-day-of-dead-mexico At 8PM each evening all edible offerings will be removed because of the hungry in our neighborhood.
