Cancer Awareness Just like humans, the longer your pet lives, the higher their risk of developing some form of cancer. The most common types of cancer in dogs include lymphoma, mast cell tumors in skin, and osteosarcoma (bone cancer). Some of these cancers have subtle symptoms or may appear simply as an enlargement or lump that a pet owner might just attribute to aging. In many cases, those bumps may be a benign lipoma (fatty tumor), but it’s much better to be safe than s...orry. That’s why it’s important that pets have annual wellness checksand for pets over seven, Mission Valley recommends semi-annual exams and blood testing. Many types of pet cancers are treatable, but the earlier they’re caught, the better your pet’s chances of a good outcome. Call Mission Valley Veterinary Clinic at 510-797-2323 to set up your senior pet’s wellness screenings! See more

September is Responsible Dog Ownership Month! Run down the checklist below for a few reminders your dog would really benefit from! - My dog sees the vet at least once per year for a routine check-up and vaccinations. - My dog is microchipped and is wearing external identification. - I have a way to pay for emergency veterinary expenses if my dog gets suddenly sick or injured. - I have a plan for my pet is there’s a natural disaster, emergency, or if something shou...ld happen to me and I can’t care for him or her. - My dog gets enough exercise and mental stimulation nearly every day. - My dog has a place where he or she can be safe and warm and protected from the elements. - My dog does not live most of his or her life on a chain or confined to a small area.
