Miss Hilary's Tiny Tots 06.07.2021

It is with a heavy heart I announce that Miss Hilary’s Tiny Tots will be closing its doors on the Monterey Peninsula on Friday, February 19th 2021. We are relocating to Chico for my husband’s job and we’ll be moving at the end of February. Throughout the past 11 years I have met so many wonderful families, my heart aches knowing I’m leaving everyone behind. To each and every one of you, please know that I am forever grateful that you trusted me to care for your child/childre...n. Each one of the kids holds a special place in my heart and I will never forget them! I plan to reopen daycare in Chico with 2-3 kids once we are settled in. If you feel so inclined to leave a Yelp/Google/Facebook review, it would be greatly appreciated as I rebuild my business from the ground up. This past year has been such a whirlwind for all of us, I certainly never thought we’d be packing up and relocating. Change can be scary, but sometimes it can be a good thing! Wishing you all a happy and prosperous 2021, and I look forward to keeping in touch with everyone for many years to come. -Hilary

Why is play-based learning so important? Passive toys such as building blocks, magna tiles, puzzles, bristle blocks, Lincoln logs, play kitchens, race cars, etc. do nothing unless the child uses them. This sparks the child's imagination and curiosity, they encourage active learning, and they teach concrete concepts like problem solving because they require the child to manipulate them to work. Active toys typically require batteries or a motor to work, there's little opportu...nity for active learning, and they do not encourage the child to develop any critical thinking skills. Instead, they teach the child to expect to be entertained due to their limited functionality. In short, the more a toy does, the less your child does. And the less a toy does, the more active your child's brain must be to play with it.

Today marks 10 years since I opened Miss Hilary’s Tiny Tots! Over 10 years I have watched babies grow into toddlers, toddlers into preschoolers and preschoolers into kindergartners. I’ve cried tears of pride and joy as each child has moved on, I’ve welcomed children of all ages and backgrounds, and grown my business into something more successful than I could have ever imagined. I couldn’t have done it alone though; I’ve had a phenomenal staff along the way that I consider ...my partners, and I owe many thanks and endless gratitude to each one of them. CharChar, Miss Maggie and Miss Rachel, cheers to you! Here’s to 10 years down and hopefully many more to go!

By now I’m sure most of you have heard that all Monterey County Schools have been closed through at least the end of the month. I want to reassure you that daycare will NOT be shutting down at this time. You all have obligations at your jobs and I have an obligation to provide you all with a safe (and clean) place to bring your children. I take that responsibility seriously and will continue to provide care until the DSS Licensing Department issues a notice that home daycares are required to shut down. We will continue to take all preventative measures via regular hand washing and frequent sanitization of the toys and surfaces throughout the house.

I hope everyone is having a fabulous summer break so far! We are now officially up and running in East Garrison and loving the neighborhood and all of the extra space we have in the new house. School starts on Monday, August 19th, and with several of our not-so-tiny tots starting kindergarten (insert lots of excited, sad and bittersweet emotions here) I will have a few new openings for toddlers/preschoolers as follows: 2 full-time openings M-F, and 1 part-time opening (Tues/Weds/Thurs). If you would like more information, or are interested in scheduling a tour and interview, please feel free to text, email or call me anytime!

We have exciting news: we’re moving!!! After 4.5 years in Toro Park we are excited to expand into East Garrison in Marina, just under 10 minutes way. Our new home is only 2 years old and it has an additional 1,000 square feet of space for the kids to play and explore! Daycare will begin at the new house in early July (an exact date will be announced soon). We can’t wait for you all to see it and enjoy it with us.

New year, time for some new changes! Going forward, I will only be offering full time spots in daycare. I have always done my best to accommodate every family's needs, however, as a result I now have a schedule with random days and blocks of time open that cannot be utilized by families that need full time care. Children currently enrolled part time or daily will not be affected by this change.

I will have one opening (either FT or PT) for a child who is at least 2 years old starting Monday, June 25th. This spot is available long term or short term through the summer. Rates are $200/week for FT or $150/week for PT, with a discount offered for a school-aged child who only needs summer break care. Please feel free to message me for more information

**Infant openings** I currently have 1 infant spot open in daycare, and I will have a 2nd spot open beginning Monday, January 29th.
