Even though 2020 was a rough year we still had some great moments at Mires Martial Arts. We started the year off with a demo in Oakland at the Harlem Globetrotters game. I got to go to Washington to meet up with Charles Jones! Then we hosted an awesome kickboxing event with 2 other schools. Then the world shut down, but we didn’t let it stop us. I started Kata in the House! We celebrated our 10 year Dojo anniversary on Zoom and had many students and former students (even 2 in... other states) attend. Mylee and Josh earned their Jr. Black Belts and we had 11 students earn their brown belts! We continued our training on Zoom, at the park, and at the dojo with masks and temperature checks. We even managed to sign up new students who have been progressing quite nicely. The biggest gift I got was that because everything was shut down Sensei Yoshi was available to be my assistant for the last 7 months. A whole new generation of students have gotten to know him and have had the opportunity to train with him. This was only possible because his High School Band and his Volley Ball season were cancelled. I have enjoyed every minute of watching him grow as a karate student and as a person over the last 10 years and these last few months have been extra special. Even in dark times there are always things to be grateful for and I am so grateful too all of our students and their families for their continued support over the last year.
