https://ring.com/share/c9d256c2-d538-4570-9fe5-a37fb2293da9 BOBCATS and Foxes are becoming more common in the Bay Area. Here is a fascinating video from a family in Ross; they had a bobcat and a fox circling their chicken run. At the same time! I had no idea these animals hung out together. Watch the 30 second clip

BLACK CHICKEN FRIDAY! Here is the newest breed to our lineup, the Ayam Cemani. We call her the Goth Chicken but she is also called the most rare breed in the world! She is entirely black. Black feathers, black wattles, comb, tongue! eyes, and feet. Her eggs are not black. And like most Goth girlsl - she is very sweet.

These lovely ladies live in Livermore! and are very spoiled. They are also destroying the family's vegetable garden! As a rule - anything scented the chickens steer away from, i.e, lavender, rosemary..but if it is a young plant they will gobble it up

Count the hens in the 1 nesting box! and the one hen trying to get in. I have 6 boxes in this coop - and they all fight over the same box. I love chickens.

In case you have been living under a rock --- this is the latest craze for baby chicks. Paper cupcake holders turned into tutus for your baby chicks! We sell the larger chicken tutus but you need to start them off first with the paper cupcakes...it is a bit like getting a dog to wear a sweater.

As you may have noticed - everybody is now getting backyard chickens and starting vegetable gardens. We have even caught the attention of the Japanese media https://www.asahi.com/articles/DA3S14478893.html

Without a doubt - this has been the busiest craziest baby chick season we have ever experienced. We still have lots of chicks!

We are proud to announce our new business venture! Screech OWL BOXES! Rats are a problem throughout the Bay Area and they are attracted to backyard chickens. We will come to your property, asses area for placement, and then come back and install the boxes. We recommend 2 boxes for individual properties (male and female houses). The Screech Owls are tiny - less than 10" so your chickens are safe - but they do take down large rats.

Dust bath..... if you are lucky to have a fire place you can apply the fire ash directly into your run to help knock out mites, lice, etc. your hens will love you! Be sure that you are not burning anything toxic , i.e, chemically treated or pressure treated wood.

We are slowly winding down our 2019 season. If you are looking for gorgeous eggs - consider getting one of the Marans sisters. They lay gorgeous copper eggs or heavily freckled eggs. You can't predict until they start laying. The close up egg is from a Black Copper Marans and then the darker egg with freckles is from a Golden Marans. We currently have coop ready Marans if you don't want the hassle of baby chicks.
