Ever wonder why we refer to professions as "practicing law" or "practicing medicine?" Since the early 15th Century, "practice" was used as a verb to describe the carrying on of a profession, especially medicine. The verb "practice" when referring to the practice of medicine (or law or other professions) came from the Old French "practiser" ("to practice"). "Practiser" ultimately came from the Latin "practicare" ("perform," "carry out"), itself from the Latin "practica." And just like that, we’ve turned THREE! Thanks to all who have helped keep the lights on this past year. Being a 100% referral based business, not being able to network in person necessitated a massive pivot. Lunch has been replaced by coffee over Zoom and clients have come to expect never actually meeting in person. If 2020 taught us anything it’s that to succeed in business, one must be able to adapt - especially to new technologies and to new needs of clients. We’ve... been happy to help more clients in the last year than in our first two years combined based in large part on our ability to efficiently identify client needs and effectively execute a game plan. Happy clients = more clients! There are few greater feelings than helping a client in need through a tough legal situation. While we’re sure glad to get back out and see everyone, we’re even more glad to see everyone staying healthy and getting vaccinated. "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. , "Letter from a Birmingham Jail." This photograph was taken at a Minneapolis march protesting the murder of a Black man by police. No, it was not George Floyd.... Marcus Golden, 24, was shot and killed by police in the parking lot of an apartment complex in January 2015. Police were responding to a 911 call from a man who reported he was receiving death threats from his ex-girlfriend’s former boyfriend. A grand jury cleared two St. Paul police officers in the shooting. We can honor the work of Dr. King by taking the time to remember those still awaiting justice, like Marcus Golden, George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and countless others; by supporting those working towards a more just country , like the NAACP, Southern Poverty Law Center, and Black Lives Matter; and by making efforts to listen and learn what you can. #blacklivesmatter
