During this final class, students had the opportunity to revisit Shoka Shimputai. The airy stems of Peppergrass (Lepidium apetalum) swaying in light breeze are offset by the calm and reserved nature of the Oriental Lilies. The juxtaposition brings to mind a lively and harmonious musical composition. Also, awards were presented by the Abbess to students with full attendance, the instructor and the teacher’s aide, marking a perfect conclusion to the Ikenobo flower arrangement class. In the last class, students practiced Jiyuka (the Free Style) again. They used season's flowers, such as Baby's-breath (Gypsophila), the holly, and the vigorous and hardy branches to create the beautiful scenery of the first snow, and to welcome the upcoming winter season. Middle Land Chan Monastery wishes everyone a happy Thanksgiving holiday! (Jiyuka, the Free Style)

Last week, students had a chance to arrange in Shoka Shimputai, which literally means "new wind style'. Relative to Shofutai, this style is more adapted to modern life styles with fewer rules, thus allowing for a wider choice of floral materials and more freedom in expressing the inner beauty of plants. Using two main parts, Shu and Yo, completed by "helpers' called, Ashirai, arrangers are able to showcase the interrelationship and complementary effect exemplified in Shoka Shimputai. Such beauty brings to mind the eternal truth in "With all humanity be harmonious". (Shoka- Shimputai)(Shu)(Yo)(Ashirai)
