Today I had a long discussion with my hosts, and we discussed the current situation with the Coronavirus, and all of the advice given by medical professionals and elected officials. While there is mixed information coming out daily, and we think that some of the public panic over the pandemic might be overdone, we have decided that we cannot afford to be wrong. We cannot afford to continue our event, in the face of the precautions being taken by local bars, wineries, restaura...nts, theaters, and other public locations. Mahogany Urban Poetry Series has a long history of being open, no matter what. We survived restaurant closings, riots, fires, and tragedy. But this situation is different. While we fully believe that our venue is safe, we cannot fully control if someone comes in and has the infection, and then one of our patrons goes home and infects an elder, or a child. The risks outweigh the benefits. So we have decided to go on hiatus until April 1st. For the next 2 Wednesdays, Mahogany Urban Poetry Series will be on break, and we will reopen April 1st. Our Hiatus unfortunately also involves our Mics and Moods event that was scheduled for March 28th. We hope that you will understand this difficult decision that we had to make in the interest of the safety of our community. There is simply too much of a risk involved for us to continue.
