During these last 9 months of the COVID-19 pandemic, it has become quite apparent how important exercise and youth sports are to the well-being of our children. However, we’ve also come to realize the relative ease at which COVID-19 can be transmitted via airborne spread, especially during heavy physical activity. As such, the American Academy of Pediatrics recently published guidelines on masks/facial coverings during youth exercise, and recommends ALL participants ON and ...OFF the field/court wear masks- during both training AND games. Facial coverings have been shown to be well-tolerated during exercise, as well as prevent the spread of COVID-19. Please share with your local leagues, teams, and coaches, as we partner with youth sports to get our kids back safely to the court or field. It’s important for their physical and mental health! https://www.aappublications.org//12/04/sportsguidance120420

As COVID cases start to rise in OC, please keep in mind if you have been exposed to a +COVID person, going to just get tested doesn’t guarantee you aren’t contagious! Symptoms could take up to 14 days to appear after exposure, and you are contagious 48 prior to developing any symptoms. Quarantine is needed for 14 days to keep you from exposing others! Please reach out to MBP if you have a +COVID exposure. We can help talk through the logistics of quarantine, and then COVID test at the proper time. Check out this great pictograph below

Please join us in wishing Dr. LaSala well on the new chapter in her life, as she transitions to a different work-life balance that allows her the flexibility of being home with her children. Her last day at Mia Bella will be October 14, 2020. While we are sad to see her go, we have been blessed over the last 4 years with her never-ending smile, her charismatic personality, and her compassionate care of each and every one of her patients. Thank you Dr. LaSala! We will mi...ss you! Please read below a letter from Dr. LaSala to her Mia Bella Patients: To all my patients, The COVID pandemic has brought significant change to all of our lives. As parents we have all learned to juggle work, child care, and our kids’ learning environment all at once, and often not on our terms. Our kids need us even more now. I, too, have realized my 3 small children (with an ER doctor as a husband) need me more than ever, for distance learning, stability, and support. I realized I simply need to be home more often and available for my family, and in order to do so, I need to have more flexibility in my work schedule. As such, after tons of self reflection during the pandemic, I’ve decided to leave the traditional work environment of a pediatric office and follow my passion. I will be starting my own consulting business, The Full Kid MD, where I will be able to work with families in their own homes, help their child develop a healthy relationship with food, and break the constant dieting cycle. I will also be able to help new parents with breastfeeding, sleep routines, and introduction of solids, in addition to assisting with sleep for all ages. While I will be leaving Mia Bella Pediatrics, I will still be able to focus on my love of helping children to be healthy and thrive, while also being there for my own kids as well. I want to thank all of you for trusting me with your children. I have loved every second spent with my patients. From the drawings, to the handmade gifts, the funny jokes, and the back scratches, your children have brought me so much joy. Please give your families a hug and tell your children how much they mean to me. All my best, Brandie LaSala, MD
