Here is a fun and creative craft project and teaching video for young children from the H.O.P.E. ministry at St. Demetrios parish in Seattle, Washington: PROJECT: St. Demetrios Icon Frame TEACHING VIDEO: https://youtu.be/_KkdyijbytQ... MATERIALS: St. Demetrios icon to print out (see below for printable icon), popsicle sticks (or you could use a cardboard square approximately 4 by 4 inches), paint (or markers), decorative art materials (the sample photo shows craft gems but any art material can be used, for instance glitter, sequins, tissue paper squares, beads, shapes cut from paper, buttons, pompoms), glue, scissors. INSTRUCTIONS: 1) Print out the icon of St. Demetrios and cut out. 2) If using popsicle sticks, have your child paint the sticks (or use markers) in any color that they choose. If using cardboard, cut a hole out of the middle of the square slightly smaller than the icon, then have your child paint or color the frame. 3)When the paint is dry, assemble the frame by gluing the popsicle sticks together into a frame shape, using the icon as a size guide. 4) When the glue is dry, your child can decorate the icon frame with any material that they wish. 5) When the decorations are dry, attach the iron to the frame with glue or tape

ATTENTION YOUNG ADULTS! It's not too late to join this awesome free webinar tomorrow on A Young Adult’s Guide to Resilience in 2020 with Dr. George Stavros Monday, October 26, 2020... 8:009:00 PM Eastern / 5:00-6:00 PM Pacific Standard Time 2020 is turning out to be the most tumultuous year in at least a generation. We are only beginning to identify and reckon with the long-term impacts of a global pandemic, explosive racial tensions, a chaotic presidential election, and an ongoing world climate crisis. For young adults, these events have particular meaning and also raise critical questions. One of the questions which we will attempt to address isIs it possible for me to flourish and thrive right now, without being overwhelmed by fear, anger, despair, or numbness? During this hour, we will discuss a combination of social science and theological guideposts to help us find our way during these uncertain times. We will also touch upon ways young adults can help one another with resilience and our parishes can foster resilience. George Stavros is the executive director of the Danielsen Institute and Clinical Associate Professor of Pastoral Psychology at Boston University. His clinical and research interests include psychotherapy practice and training and psychotherapy outcomes; clergy wellness; and exploring the connection between spirituality and mental health. He is a licensed psychologist and has an M.Div. from Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology. This webinar is geared for young adults and all who love young adultspriests, parish leaders, parents, grandparents. A webinar of the Telos Project, it is part of a research project of the Office of Vocation & Ministry at Hellenic College Holy Cross on how our young adults and Orthodox parishes engage one another. There are certain days in history that will never be forgotten. September 11, 2001 is one of those days. Amidst the collapse of the majestic twin towers was a small church dedicated to Saint Nicholas. It may have been in the shadow of the towers, but it was a church that stood tall as a place a worship, a place of prayer, and a place of holiness. Nineteen years later, we painfully remember this dark day in our history and pray for the eternal repose of all those who lost the...ir lives, whether they were airline passengers and crew, those working in the towers and the surrounding area, the first-responders who heroically died trying to save others, and even those who suffered and died from illnesses brought on by the aftermath of this terrorist attack. Healing does not come quickly, but with the passing of time, our lives move forward, yet always recalling the infamous date of September 11, 2001. We are a strong country and a resilient people. As Greek Orthodox Christians, we have been faithful in our pursuit of the development of a new home to honor Saint Nicholas and a place to once again provide for worship, prayer and holiness. Saint Nicholas National Shrine at the World Trade center is that place for us. In just one year, the opening of this sacred space will be celebrated. This will be the culmination of many years of efforts to see this project through to completion. Prayers will be offered for all those who died on 9/11. This will also be the beginning, as the doors of the Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and National Shrine will be open for the world to witness our faith, to be surrounded by God’s love, to light a candle, and to say a prayer for peace.
