Last night at the Orange City Council Meeting we adopted a proclamation honoring the PUBLIC SAFETY DISPATCHERS of the City of Orange and surrounding areas. Thes...e very skilled and dedicated professionals that you will probably never see, and will only talk to in the worse of the worse moments of your life! Our Public Safety Dispatchers are there 24/7 answering those 9-1-1 lines and offering CPR instructions, helping victims of crimes, delivering a baby, or talking to a person as they take their last breath. They are task sometimes with overwhelming stress and grief and then not just asked but mandated to it all over again seconds later. Our City of Orange Police, Metro Cities Fire Authority (Metro Net), CHP, OC Sheriff, and OC Fire Authority have outstanding Public Safety Dispatchers that are here to serve because it isn't just a job it is a true calling of service above self and helping our fellow human. The week of April 11th to April 17th honors these dedicated professionals that I have called colleagues, friends, and most important family for over 30 years! I ask each and every person that reads this when you see a fire engine, police unit, or ambulance screaming by with lights and sirens that you pray for their safety and that you take an extra second to remember that voice in the dark that you call in your worse moment and just say help and they do! And THANK YOU Public Safety Dispatchers!! Meet Metro Net Fire Dispatcher Anthony Cabrera Anthony was hired as a Fire Dispatcher in 2004. Prior to joining Metro Net, Anthony was an aerospace mechanic. ...Anthony became interested in a career as a 9-1-1 dispatcher after taking Peace Officers Standards and Training (P.O.S.T) at Golden West College and doing a sit along. He told himself, I can do this. His advice to anyone interested in a career as a dispatcher, Do your homework to ensure that this is the career for you. Take a Peace Officers Standards and Training (P.O.S.T) class, the class explains what the position entails. After becoming a father, Anthony finds calls of drownings and cardiac arrest having to do with children the most stressful. The most challenging calls are helping people who are in a very excited state of mind. Anthony states the most rewarding part of his job is helping young and older patients.

Did you know there is a very small group of employees with the City of Orange that protect you, your families, businesses and our Police Officers and Firefighte...rs? Those are our City of Orange Police Dispatchers and Metro Cities Fire Dispatchers and they're very highly trained and dedicated to the mission our city demands. They have time and time again delivered babies, saved lives, assisted those in mental crisis, and so on and so on.......of course at the same time making sure they're in constant contact with our Police Officers and Firefighters to ensure their safety and they get home to their families at the end of their shifts. They are located in extremely secured locations and very rarely thanked and very rarely seen by the public but are always there for us. We as a community should thank our Police Officers and Firefighters for the outstanding service they provide us day in and day out. But today, let us also share a moment for the unsung heroes that are the calm in the storm and remember that FUNDING our Police and Fire includes 9-1-1 and those professionals! Thank You City of Orange Police Dispatchers and Metro Cities Fire Dispatchers for your service each and every day!
