Additions over time to Mesa Farms as seen from google Earth aerial imagery from 2003 to 2021 (best viewed full-screen, arrow keys toggle forward and backward in time). We purchased the land in March '16, then rehabbed and remodeled the 2 houses, put in a fence and native habitat restoration area along the road frontage, and terraced several areas. In subsequent years we have continued with landscape and other improvements, pulling acres of invasive weeds each winter and spring, working toward the long-term goal of a small but sustainable organic farm, completing a fenced 200'x100' planting area in 2019, in which we then planted various fruit trees and a grape orchard in 2020-21. Images are of the front ~8 acres of the property, we also have 30+ additional acres of open space conservation area to the East.

Western blue eyed grass, Sisyrinchium bellum. I love closeups of this so you can see the interesting yellow pattern at the center of the flower. This is from 6/12/2020 in the Emigrant Gap area

Flowers of Mission Trails This new design was created for the beloved @missiontrails_regionalpark . Chocolate Lilies, California Poppies, Arroyo Lupines, Pur...ple Nightshade, California Fuchsia, and California Sunflower are some of the flowers you may discover along these trails. Mission Trails is one of the largest urban parks in the country, with thousands of acres of natural beauty and diverse flora and fauna. This card design coincides with my exhibit at Mission Trails, California Tapestry. The opening is June 23rd 2-4pm; I hope to see you there! See more

Additions over time to Mesa Farms. Large rectangle is a ~1/2 acre area we'll be fencing off and planting a wide variety of fruit trees and other crops. We purchased the land in March '16 and in the first year rehabbed and remodeled the 2 houses, put in a fence and native habitat restoration area along the road frontage, and terraced several areas. In the past 2 years we have continued with landscape and other improvements, pulling acres of invasive weeds each winter and spring, and planning the next steps toward achieving a small but sustainable organic farm. Images are of front ~8 acres of the property. We also have 30+ additional acres of open space conservation area to the East.

Popping The "Food Bubble" Before the Bubble Humans have spent the vast portion of their time on earth as hunter-gatherers, not as farmers and especially not as industrialists. That’s why it is important to learn about our food legacy of hunting and gathering prior to the complete transformation our food supply over the last 100 years. We may have overrun our natural evolutionary speed of adaptation to food....Continue reading
