Although it is increasingly rare for an employer to offer a pension, it can make up a considerable portion of your nest egg if you are lucky enough to have one. As you approach #retirement you may want to evaluate if you should take your pension as a lump sum or as a lifetime stream of payments. Here's a snapshot of a flowchart to help you weigh your options. Download the full flowchart here: bit.ly/MWMPensionFC #retirementplanning #financialplanning

Everything I do at Meritage Wealth Management starts with getting to know you. And not just about your money I mean really get to know you, and the things you hold most dear. I believe in the importance of necessitating ease, ensuring you always feel comfortable working together, and secure in the knowledge that you and your finances are in trusted and capable hands. My mom had a knack for making everyone feel comfortable, welcomed and important. Luckily, even as a young child, I recognized how others responded to being around her. Her enthusiasm for everything and everyone was contagious, and left an indelible imprint that now colors everything I do. I’ve found in my practice that I bring this inherent level of enthusiasm to all of my clients, whether it’s through educating you on your investments, discussing your options for employer plan rollovers at retirement or reviewing your options to mitigate taxes in retirement. I’m passionate about teaching and guiding you through life’s ever-changing landscape in a way that is rooted in authenticity and warmth.

Investors are being tested right now. COVID-19 and now oil prices are making for a wild ride. Market volatility stirs the emotions. It's hard not to react when markets make sudden, large moves. Today is a very important day, as we take the time to give thanks and remembrance to all the courageous service men and women who have sacrificed so much so that we may remain living safely in the land of the free. It is also a day I hold especially dear in my own household, as we honor the many achievements and sacrifices of my husband, Jeff, who served in the US Navy for 20 years. We are so grateful for everything he has done for us and our country, today and every day. Our thoughts are especially with all those families whose loved ones made the ultimate sacrifice in service. We owe them a debt we can never repay.

5 Pieces of Advice to Consider When Selling Your Business You’ve built a successful business through years of hard work. But how do you decide when is the right time to call it quits? Leaving your company and selling your business is a life milestone that profoundly affects your financial and emotional wellbeing. However, eventually circumstances may arise that indicate the time to leave has arrived. So what does a good succession plan look like, and how do you go about creat...ing one? #1. MOVE WITH THE TIMES Technology, consumer tastes, and industry realignment can drive a once winning business formula into an untenable position. For example, your industry might have evolved to the point where only the biggest companies can compete. The trick to successfully selling your business is to do so before it loses profitability. #2. DON’T FORGET YOUR HEALTH Naturally, a major negative health event can be decisive. But you also must pay attention to deteriorating health conditions that may appear as you age. Exiting your company early gives you more control, compared with waiting until your health forces you to leave. #3. KNOW WHEN TO QUIT You’ve made a success of your business, but frankly, the challenge is gone. The world is full of new adventures and you can choose what to do next. You might take up a hobby, mentor others, join a foundation, or travel the world. If the business no longer gives you fulfillment, you just might want to find another way to enjoy your life. #4. PROFITS = PROSPECTS If you’ve nurtured your company into a strong position, you may be able to receive top dollar when you sell it. Or, if you want to pass it on to relatives, you have the peace of mind of knowing that they are inheriting a sound enterprise. After many years of toil and sweat, you might feel it’s time to finally reap the rewarda large nest egg or a family legacy. #5. THINK AHEAD The time to create a succession plan is well before your exit. I can guide you through the process and help you work toward your desired outcomes. Let’s get started putting plans together to pursue a graceful, and profitable, exit. Together we can make sure you are on track to enjoy life post-career. Are you interested in learning more?
