NO TRAINERS WERE MAIMED IN THE PRODUCTION OF THIS POST! Do you remember a time when you heard a manager or company trainer make some comment or statement that j...ust left you amazed and saying to yourself, Did he really say that? Sometimes it's not what is said, but the assumptions underlying the message. I had the opportunity this week to observe a corporate "trainer" talk about customer service. The small group of staff members were polite and respectful as the trainer committed a series of customer service faux pas. We all know to treat the customer with respect, make no assumptions, and listen to their needs. So, how do we forget to treat staff with the same respect? The "One Minute Manager", penned by Kenneth Blanchard, is now over 32 years old. We often assume that good managers and anyone working with employees would know People who feel good about themselves produce good results. I have always believed it is important to respect great staff, acknowledge the excellent work they do, and inspire them to find ways to be even better. In order to grow and develop, any employee needs to feel safe, and know they have permission to try new things, and even discover a new" best practice, the kind of breakthrough that could lead to company-wide improvement. Great ideas and best practices are all around us, and some are there right before our eyes.

SMOKEY AND ME Like the great singer/songwriter, Smokey Robinson, "I Second That Emotion", too! In my video below, I state that people buy on emotions and justify with logic. It's important to keep this in mind during the sales process. It's important to know why the buyer wants your product. And, it's important to encourage those emotions! During the sales process, continue to be aware of the verbal cues, emotional tone, and body language indicators. Effective sales prof...essionals recognize these signs and accurately interpret them so they can appropriately respond to them. By maintaining a high level of rapport, and appealing to the buyer's emotions and motives you avoid being overly "sales-y", and lead the buyer to an easy close. To Your Prosperity! "Sales are contingent upon the attitude of the salesman -- not the attitude of the prospect." ~W. Clement Stone

THE POWER OF WORDS. When you are talking with customers, choose words that create interest and excitement. Every sale is an emotional decision, not a logical one. It’s all about the fun that bike represents. My store owner would always say, Customers don’t need a bikethey want one. Once you understand this, that’s where creating the excitement leads to an easy yes.

DO YOU GIVE GOOD PHONE? Initial callsoften it will be, Do you have this model, and how much? That’s a question you can’t answer over the phone, otherwise you have just lost the sale. However, now is the time to instantly build rapport and create interest to get them to come in. My Sales Manager would constantly remind me, You can’t sell a bike over the phone, but you can get them to come in the door!

It’s not about having the right opportunities. It’s about handling the opportunities right. - Mark Hunter

You’re at some point in the sales process and the customer asks you a question that detours you off course. Now, this is where it is highly valuable to be well-versed in the 5-step sales process--to know where you actually were when the "detour" question was asked. If you know where you are in the process, you can now answer the question effortlessly and seamlessly and return where you left off.
