Please join us in congratulating Dr. Thompson and Dr. Roberts for performing the first Mitraclip procedure at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital! The Mitraclip, which requires no open heart surgery, is a new treatment for severe mitral regurgitation or leaky valve. Patients who have this procedure typically experience quicker recovery times and are able to leave the hospital after a day or two.

In partnership with JJ's Legacy, Dignity Health is proud to honor Chantal Yvette Martinez-Murray as the 2021 Legacy of Humankindness Award recipient and Bakersfield's 2021 Donate Life Floragraph Honoree. In 2017, Chantal passed away, donating both of her kidneys, tissues, liver, lungs and heart. Chantal's gift of life impacts so many individuals and brings much peace to her family. The season of giving is here, and this year, the Dignity Health Community Grants Program presented checks totaling $380,144 to nine Kern County non-profits. While this year may look a little different from years past, our commitment to helping our community hasn’t wavered. We’re proud to partner with each of these non-profits and support the work they do for Kern County. This year’s grant recipients include: ADAKC - Alzheimer's Disease Association of Kern County, Inc., Bakersfield Pregnancy Center, BARC (Bakersfield ARC), Casa Esperanza, Catholic Charities of Bakersfield, CityServe, Grimm Family Education Foundation, Saint Vincent De Paul and Wounded Heroes Fund!

Each year Mercy & Memorial Hospitals hosts the Angel Baby Memorial Service to provide an opportunity for families who have lost pre-term babies, in one of our birth centers, to celebrate the life and loss of their little one. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year the memorial service is being held virtually. Please take time to pause and reflect as you watch this service. If you would like to visit the cemetery on your own, Greenlawn Southwest is open this weekend and there are keepsake poems available at the Celebration of Life building.

The wind may have taken us by surprise, but that didn’t stop us from decorating our cars and cruising down Chester Avenue for CampIN Against Cancer. Thank you to all who came out last night to support the Kern County Cancer Fund!
