As everyone prepares to celebrate Halloween and Dia de los Muertos, Merced County Fire and Merced County Office of Emergency Services is encouraging the community to make this year’s festivities as safe as possible by planning lower-risk online, at-home and car-based activities. . Halloween is on a Saturday this year, and law enforcement will have additional officers on patrol Halloween night looking for suspected impaired drivers. . Children are more than twice as likely to ...be hit by a car and killed on Halloween than on any other day of the year. Lack of visibility because of low lighting at night also plays a factor in these incidents. . It is important to keep traffic safety in mind and designate a non-drinking driver before going somewhere to drink. Merced County Office of Emergency Services offers these tips for drivers and those who are out walking: The days are getting shorter. Be visible and carry a flashlight or reflective vest if you are out at dusk or at night so drivers can see you. Stick to familiar, well-lit routes. Only cross the street at crosswalks or corners where it is safe. Always look left, right, then left again before crossing. If you are doing car-based tours of decorations, be extra alert for other vehicles backing out of driveways or leaving parking spaces. Stolen Vehicle with 3 year old child inside. Merced Police Officers are searching for a stolen 2002 Silver Toyota Corolla, CA license 4VMS942. The vehicle was stolen from the 400 block of W. 27th Street at approximately 6:45 PM today, October 26, 2020. Products and equipment powered by internal combustion engines such as portable generators, cars, lawn mowers, and power washers also produce CO. How many people are unintentionally poisoned by CO?... . On average, about 170 people in the United States die every year from CO produced by non-automotive consumer products.
