This week, Los Angeles County qualified for the State's 'Yellow' Tierthe least restrictive of California's reopening frameworkafter hitting record low numbers of hospitalizations and test positivity rates. These achievements go hand-in-hand with the County's strong vaccination efforts which have produced some of the largest mass vaccination sites in the US and supply to cover all residents 16+ without appointments. Vaccines work. What is the best approach to communication on the #COVIDVaccine ? "I would say that we hear firsthand from those who have been enrolled in the vaccine trials. I think we need to have a town hall and people that are vaccinated already need to come forward and explain to the public what they experienced and what they are going through now, and how it was for them. I think people will have a lot of assurance after hearing from the actual patients who went through the trials." #townhall #virtualtownhall #vaccine #covidvaccine #covidvaccinetrials #covid19 #covid2019 #coronavirus #corona #losangeles #covid19losangeles #covid2019losangeles #coronaviruslosangeles #lapublichealth #mendurgentcare #mendhealth

Does the amount of #COVID contracted determine the severity of illness? "Your initial viral load--what you're inoculated with--does determine how sick you will get. If only a small amount of viral particles get into your body, your immune system can start jumping on it more quickly and more rapidly. A classic example would be at a very large gathering: if everybody is wearing a mask, we have decreased inoculation capacity and decreased vital load being transmitted. The viral load upfront will determine how sick you possibly can get." #wearamask #covid19 #covid2019 #coronavirus #corona #losangeles #covid19losangeles #covid2019losangeles #coronaviruslosangeles #lapublichealth #mendurgentcare #mendhealth #viralload

Source: Los Angeles County Department of Public Health - 9/29/2020 "Although Los Angeles County met the State's metric thresholds for Tier 2 last week, L.A. County remains in Tier 1 due to the current adjusted daily case rate of 7.3 cases per 100,000 residents. Per the State guidelines, to move to Tier 2, the County's case rate needs to be 7 or fewer new cases a day per 100,000 residents for two consecutive weeks. The County's test positivity rate is 2.9% which places the Co...unty in Tier 3 for this metric. The State places Counties in the most restrictive Tier when the metrics fall in two different tiers, so the County remains in Tier 1 because the daily case rate indicates there is still widespread transmission in our communities." #covid19 #covid2019 #coronavirus #corona #losangeles #covid19losangeles #covid2019losangeles #coronaviruslosangeles #lapublichealth #mendurgentcare #mendhealth

If I don’t live near the fires, am I still at risk? If you see the smoke, it’s obviously there in your neighborhood. And it’s amazing how far these smoke particles can travel from the epicenter of the fire. Therefore, if you see ash on your car or see ash in your neighborhood, you can bet there is noxious material floating around you. If you have any pulmonary problems i.e. asthma, COPD, immunosuppression you’re at risk for having exacerbation of your underlying condition. We also know that people with #COVID have very weakened lungs. They should also be especially careful in going outdoors at this time. #californiafires #lafires #losangelesfires #smokeinhalation #smokeadvisory #publichealth #lapublichealth

Via CNN: Memorial Day came. We celebrated. We burst out of our suffocating homes with a damn-the-torpedoes surge, eager to see the places, family and friends we'd been yearning for during those smothering weeks of isolation. Then we paid the price. Two or so weeks later, after the virus had incubated, cases of Covid-19 spiked, with 4 million more cumulative cases since Memorial Day. The surge ignited an upward trend we've been battling ever since The Fourth of July holiday d...idn't help -- that was another excuse to launch caution to the skies. By then, cities and states were also lifting restrictions. One mistake fed upon another, with tragic consequences Will Labor Day be any different? That, experts say, depends entirely on us. "I'm worried about Labor Day because people may have the impression that cases are coming down," said epidemiologist Ali Mokdad, a professor of health metrics sciences at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington. "We use Labor Day as a way to take the day off, but unfortunately the virus doesn't," said epidemiologist Jennifer Nuzzo, a senior scholar at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security. "The more we travel, the more we interact with people, the more opportunities there are for exposure," said Nuzzo, who is the lead epidemiologist on the Covid-19 transmission tracker at Hopkins's Coronavirus Resource Center. "It's really best that we try to limit our movement as much as possible." ‘ Be smart, be safe, and listen to public health officials this Labor Day weekend : Kevin Winter / Getty Images #covid19 #covid2019 #coronavirus #corona #losangeles #covid19losangeles #covid2019losangeles #coronaviruslosangeles #lapublichealth #mendurgentcare #mendhealth
