Today the Mendocino College Online Repertory Theatre (ORT) released our rendition of Abraham Lincoln's "The Gettysburg Address." This piece and Lawrence Felinghetti's "I am Waiting" are intended to speak to each other, to celebrate democracy and offer hope in dark times, and most importantly, to encourage our audiences to vote! You can view the "Gettysburg Address" at: https://youtu.be/SZWhfgohyuU.

Hello theatre friends... Mendocino College classes start in just 2 weeks. Two of my theatre classes need a few more students: Fist...... Beginning Acting (THE210B): taught online with synchronous sessions on Zoom each Wednesday 3-5 PM. You can take this class from anywhere! We'll be using a new online text called FlixActing which incorporates video content from films as examples of acting styles and approaches. We'll do scene-work and exercises online in a supportive and nurturing atmosphere. Students with all levels of experience are welcome, though no prior experience is required. This will be a great way to develop your acting skills as well as to connect with others in shared artistic work during this time of isolation. I hope you will join me! And also... Dramatic Literature & Script Analysis (THE 202): taught fully online asynchronously...that means there are no required meetings at pre-established times...You can take this class from the comfort of your own home and access the course materials at any days and times. We'll be reading and analyzing 8 great plays...mostly contemporary American scripts...So valuable for all theatre artists as well as anybody who simply loves plays. Community members and theatre students are all welcome! For more information, about these or other class, please just respond to this post or e-mail me at [email protected]. Yours, Reid Edelman

Would you like to read and discuss some great plays this fall? I'll be teaching THE 202: Intro To Dramatic Lit & Script Analysis as a fully online class. We'll be focusing on contemporary scripts. Plays on the list right now include: The Glass Menagerie (Tennessee Williams), A Raisin in the Sun (Lorraine Hansberry), Doubt (John Patrick Shanley), Clybourne Park (Bruce Norris), Stop Kiss (Diana Son), Cloud Tectonics (Jose Rivera), Waiting for Godot (Samuel Beckett ) and The G...ood Woman of Sezuan (Bertolt Brecht). Script analysis is essential for all theatre artists (actors, directors, designers...) and these plays have some juicy stuff in particular for actors looking for scenes and monologues. Community members who just want to read plays in a supportive group are also welcome! Enroll now! Questions, just reply here, or e-mail [email protected]. Yours, Reid Edelman See more
