And just like that, we are in December! On Jaagte Raho, we are closing out the year with theme of gratitude, self-care and music. And on next Monday, we will ...be joined by Melvin Escobar, a core teacher at East Bay Meditation Center in downtown Oakland, a licensed psychotherapist (clinical social worker), and certified yoga instructor in the Raja tradition. Melvin has devoted the last 25 years to serving people from marginalized communities, drawing on his life experiences as a queer man of color from an immigrant working-class background. He is a graduate of East Bay Meditation Center’s Commit to Dharma program and currently teaches yoga classes in various settings and organizations including Spirit Rock Meditation Center and the UC Berkeley WorkFit Program. Having found that the wisdom teachings embodied in Buddhism and Yoga are essential to surviving systemic oppression, he continues daily to learn the revolutionary potential of body-centered contemplative practices for personal and social healing. In Melvin’s words, as a social service volunteer and professional, I understand that being of service to others is an enormous privilege as well as a responsibility. I strive to provide a safe-enough space for my clients to feel both nurtured and challenged in finding their own internal source of wisdom and healing. Tune in on Monday, Dec 2nd, at 2:30pm on Radio Zindagi (1170AM) as we speak with Melvin and touch upon different topics based on his diverse background. You can also learn more about him here: www.melvinescobar.com
