This is a reminder that we will have our January Annual Potluck meeting this Thursday January 13th, 2022. There are no minutes from the Christmas Dinner meeting and election.The following four officers were elected and shall be installed along with the appointed officers at the January meeting. The meeting ...will be held in the Club Room at the SR Vets Building. That is the room at the N/E corner of the building with the awning over the entry way. Family and loved ones are invited to attend and each member is asked to bring enough food for 8 people. Meal types are assigned by last name: 1) A - F Main dish 2) G - P Dessert 3) Q - Z Side dish or salad Also since there is now a new paymaster please recycle your old MCL application forms. Over the course of the last six months, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has begun processing service-connected disability claims for six new presumptive conditions related to environmental exposures during military service. We request your help in making more Veterans aware of these newly added presumptive conditions to help them file a claim and obtain any earned benefits. In May 2021, VA started implementing provisions of the William M. Thornberry National Defens...e Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2021 (NDAA), adding bladder cancer, hypothyroidism and Parkinsonism to the list of medical conditions presumptively associated with exposure to Agent Orange. A few months later VA added asthma, rhinitis and sinusitis (to include rhinosinusitis) on a presumptive basis based on particulate matter exposures during military service in Southwest Asia and certain other areas. Any Veteran who was previously denied service-connection for any of these six conditions but had symptoms manifest within 10 years of military service would need to file a supplemental claim. Be sure to use VA Form 20-0995, Decision Review Request: Supplemental Claim when filing. The claim form should include the name of the condition and specify that the condition is being claimed due to in-service exposure to environmental hazards. VA is committed to assisting Veterans who may have been exposed to hazardous materials during their military service. Be sure to stay plugged in to www.va.gov for the most recent developments around environmental exposures during military service, as VA is constantly conducting research and surveillance as well as reviewing scientific literature for conditions that may be related to exposure during military service. Staying Hard OoRah

Until you’ve worked with AAVs, or Tracks as we commonly refer to them, you’ll never understand what these boys went through. My heart aches for the families, an...d I can’t even begin to imagine the grief they are experiencing. Whenever you splash into the ocean inside one of these vehicles you know it is never going to be enjoyable, and most times it is utterly miserable. From the darkness to the rolling of the surf, the sound and smell of Marines vomiting their morning meal, to the thick fumes that are so thick inside you can feel them. With all that’s going on around you you almost forget just how packed in you are; with someone sitting on your knee and pack against your head and a weapon in your arm and pelican cases shoved in places you didn’t think existed. Yet even with all this you’ll still hear the passing of jokes and the jeers of everyone at the first to pass out or loose their stomach into their Kevlar or even canteen. I can only imagine based on experience that as they were taking on water that they were told to stay there don’t worry we only need one pump working. You know from experience that as a Marine there is usually little faith to be found in our equipment and vehicles. Not for a lack of money but for a lack of wise spending by those whom the lives of the expendable will never truly effect. I know all my brothers who’ve worked with these and in these conditions are utterly heartbroken... but in no way are shocked... it could have been anyone of us at any point in time on any operations.
