During the pandemic, Miguelito Martinez and Luna Carmen found the perfect balance when creating music together. With time, they decided to name this project Canciónes en épocas de covid. The duo and rearranges some popular songs of their favorite composers: Ruben Blades, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Tomas Mendez, and experiments with the genres. While listening to their songs, yo can enjoy a salsa that has been converted into a blues, a rock song into a bolero, a pop song into an ...Afro-Cuban genre, everything subtly crafted without losing the essence that makes them so unique. In this intimate concert, you will be able to listen to well-known songs from Latin America, specially from Mexico. We will have two music guests for this concert who will make this concert fantastic! Members: Miguelito Martinez Guitar: Jarana, flute, arrangements and musical direction Luna Carmen: Cello, Lead vocal Jackie Raggo: Percussion, backing vocals, Venezuelan Cuatro Pedro Pastrana: Bajo, Cuatro Puertorriqueño

23 Minutos con Adrian Arias con Ani Arias-Aragon Peruvian first generation immigrant Anaís Azul (they/them) is a California based singer-songwriter, composer, and teaching artist. Described as stunningly honest and vulnerable, their artistry engages with music as a tool for community building, cross-genre collaboration, and collective healing. Azul writes music that is in conversation with jazz harmony, classical melodies, and Latin American singer-songwriter traditions. Their songs are bilingual (Spanish and English) and about mental health, queerness, facing harsh realities and finding inner peace in spite of chaos.

The MCCLA Celebrates Latinx Heritage Month (September 15 -October 15) by recognizing Latinx artists that have made a remarkable contribution to the Latinx Community. Today we recognize Yuyi Morales, an award-winning author and illustrator; she has written over a dozen children's books that tap into her cultural heritage. While living in SF, Morales was an active community member of the MCCLA and the Mission District, having performed with Fogo Na Roupa for several years as we...ll as exhibiting in the annual Solo Mujeres art show. When Yuyi Morales immigrated to the United States with her two month old son, she left behind everything she knew. In her first years living in the Bay Area, she often felt confused and out of place. At MCCLA, Yuyi found a community. It was at MCCLA that she took dance classes where she made lifelong friends and attended film screenings and took classes in printmaking. MCCLA has also exhibited Yuyi's artwork in the exhibition Solo Mujeres and installed her own altars for Dia de Los Muertos and Yuyi is now the acclaimed author and illustrator of several children’s books, among them, Dreamers, Viva Frida, and Niño Wrestles the World. Yuyi now lives in Mexico where she is currently working on finishing her newest book, Bright Star. #latinoheritagemonth #latinxartists #latinartist #Latinauthor #Latinaillustrator #storiesforchildren #celebratelatinheritage #SFLatinheritage #illustrator #author #latinxtheater #honorablemention
