THANK YOU BURNEY REGIONAL COMMUNITY FUND of the Community Foundation of the North State!! Mayers Memorial Hospital’s Skilled Nursing Facility in Burney purchased two new Hepa-Care Air Purification Systems because of the generosity of the Burney Regional Community Fund. These units were purchased as a part of MMHD's commitment to ensure quality care for our residents. Airborne illnesses are always a risk factor in care facilities and these air purifications systems reduce the... risk of transmission. These units arrived at a critical time. Given the worsening COVID-19 pandemic in our area, these units were purchased, installed and put to immediate use in November 2020. These portable air purification systems were able to be moved throughout the facility based on the needs of the residents. Shortly after the arrival of the units, local COVID-19 rates within the SNF and the community at large began to rise and led to the activation of the 20-bed COVID unit at the hospital campus in Fall River Mills. The portability of these units allowed them to be transferred to the COVID unit to reduce the risk of transmission of this airborne disease, better protecting the health of the staff and the patients. As infection rates significantly slowed in the community, the COVID unit was able to be closed and both units were transferred back to the Burney SNF for use. They are being fully utilized to improve the quality of care at the Burney SNF and will continue to do so throughout their usable life, even after the abatement of the pandemic. We are particularly excited for the resumption of family visitations and the air purifiers will make a definite difference in ensuring the safety of our residents, while also providing some peace of mind to their visiting family members. If the COVID unit needs to be re-opened at any point, this equipment will again be temporarily transferred. Especially in this current challenging healthcare environment, the more that we can do to protect our vulnerable populations, the better. Again, our heartfelt thanks to the Burney Regional Community Fund of the Community Foundation Of The North State for the $7500 grant you awarded our community! We couldn't do it without you #CFNorthstate! And I personally want to thank both the BURNEY REGIONAL COMMUNITY FUND and the Community Foundation of the North State for their many years of support for our hospital, our community, and for a great personal working relationship.
