The Mavericks need to begin the active search for new board members. If you can be an active board member, please let it be known. The Mavericks need you. Many changes are occurring and many of the day to day operations need to have someone take responsibility for them.. Please, Please it is time for you to step up and take charge of the direction of the club.

Just attended a dance in San Luis Obispo with Hunter Keller. Young, Enthusiastic Caller. Some of the older dancers did not like his creative styling during the patters. Some said they would not come to another dance if he were the caller. Maybe there is a signal here that other callers should take a note of. Maybe the creative figures are fun for the younger dancers, but the older dancers need to have the easier, less complicated figures to keep their interest. Let's retain our dancers regardless of our own desires..

A very important board meeting tonight. The direction of the club is being evaluated. The club needs members that are willing to become involved in the operation. Are you one?

To my Square Dancing Friends and the Square Dance Community, Remember when Square Dancing was the social event that everyone wanted to attend? It was at those dances that people caught up on all of the news of the day and how everyone's families were doing. It was the "In Thing" to do. There is a new plan, actually not new, old but new again. It is a plan for 26 calls that can be taught within 3 weeks or just 3 separate sessions. Once those calls are learned, then Communit...y Based Dances are held for anyone to attend. The dancers that have learned the 26 calls will be able to assist those that have never square danced before and within the first hour of the Community Dance, everyone will be dancing at a "Fun" level. If you want to increase the interest in Square Dancing, we must get people to come out of their electronic prisons and join in with the people that enjoy real faces and real people with a central focus on having fun. It is hoped that the square dance classes will see growth from dancers that want to learn even more. Mavericks will begin the 50 call, 12 week program starting in the fall. It is the hope that this program will catch on Statewide. It is a way that I believe will bring back square dancing to where it should be. When we had many clubs and dances that brought in 20 to 30 squares for every dance, it made sense to move quickly through the program to the plus level. That is not the case anymore. Many states are staying with Mainstream. The Mainstream program lends itself to a l...ot of creative choreography and much fun for all dancers. Jet Roberts is one of those callers that can take 50 calls and make a very interesting dance even for the dancers that dance at a higher level. For this 50 call program to be successful, all of the clubs and callers need to get on board with it. It is the right thing to do and the right time to do it! The Cayucos Square Dancers in Cayucos, California just completed the first 12 week program of 50 calls. The retention rate of the dancers that started the program and stayed all the way to the finish was 100%! We have now started to fill in the rest of the Mainstream calls that were dropped from the initial 50 calls. Once all clubs are on board, we can standardize the list so everyone in consistent and the dances will all be in line with the same 50 calls. Join the Mavericks in this bold new way to assure that Square Dancing will be here to Stay! If you are traveling to the San Luis Obispo area of Hearst Castle, make you travel plans to include a stay over in Cayucos and dance with us every Monday evening from 6:00pm-8:00pm. Wow! 11 Squares! Retention time all of you experienced dancers. Never forget how you felt when you were just learning. Patience and kindness will endure with your help.

Try a new approach to getting new dancers, tell them, Truthfully, why you square dance. Tell them the benefits that you, personally get from this activity. We can no longer sit behind the fence and wait and hope that they will come to the gate to be let in. We need to kick down that gate and go to them. They are out there needing exactly what you have gained from square dancing.
