"Unbelievably good! I honestly didn't know what to expect, given that I had been to so many other specialists in search of help with my damaged implant. Much to my surprise, and delight, Dr. Mastrovich, Valerie, and Sheila immediately made me feel at ease and have confidence in them. Sure enough, Charlie was able to restore my implant! I can't tell you how thrilled I am not only with the fact that he was able to get the piece out, but also with the explanation of why this happened and how we can remedy it in the future. Charlie truly is a genius who engineers and makes his own tools for each specific case. Couldn't be more thrilled or thankful." ~Lupe S #ImplantMechanicalRescue #IMR #BrokenImplantScrew #BrokenImplantAbutment

Data shows nutrition deficiencies among adolescent girls A significant number of teenage and preteen girls are not getting the right nutrients in their diets -- a trend that some experts warn could have long-term health implications, according to The Wall Street Journal. Data collected by a federal committee that gave guidance on an update to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans shows roughly 80% of adolescent girls are not getting enough calcium, and they also have dietary deficiencies of vitamin D, folate and iron. #OverallHealth #DentalHealth #MastrovichDental #EscondidoDentist #SanDiegoDentist #ImplantMechanicalRescue #IMR

Afternoon workout may be more beneficial for men at high risk of T2D Men at high risk of type 2 diabetes who worked out between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. for 12 weeks significantly improved their average insulin sensitivity, which helped them achieve better blood glucose control, compared with those who worked out between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. The findings in Physiological Reports also revealed that men who worked out in the afternoon lost more belly fat, The New York Times reports. #OverallHealth #DentalHealth #MastrovichDental #EscondidoDentist #SanDiegoDentist #ImplantMechanicalRescue #IMR #BrokenImplantAbutment #BrokenImplantScrew

Oral issues noted among unusual COVID-19 symptoms Tim Spector, M.D., a professor of genetic epidemiology at King's College London, said some unusual symptoms have emerged in patients with COVID-19, including a scalloped tongue and a white or yellow coating on the tongue, which he estimates have affected fewer than 1 in 500 patients, Today reports. Last year, a study in the British Journal of Dermatology reported "oral cavity findings" in 78 patients with COVID-19, including inflammation and indentations on the tongue and mouth ulcers, which researchers said warrants "specific examination under appropriate circumstances to avoid contagion risk." #BeBrave #Believe #BeSafeSanDiego #OverallHealth #DentalHealth #MastrovichDental #EscondidoDentist #SanDiegoDentist #ImplantMechanicalRescue #IMR #BrokenImplantAbutment #BrokenImplantScrew

During the pandemic and the holidays, it's beautiful to remember how our pets reduce our stress. Caring for them. Walking them. Loving them and being loved by them. Breathe and relax. Study ties red meat intake to heart disease risk The risk for heart disease increased 12% from consuming one serving of either processed or unprocessed red meat a day and rose 15% for a daily serving of processed meat such as bacon, hot dogs and sausages, according to a study in the British Medical Journal. Meanwhile, the risk fell 14% when people reported eating high-quality plant proteins like beans, peas, nuts, lentils or soy in lieu of red meat, and the benefit of such substitutions was more pronounced among adults older than 65, HealthDay News reports. #OverallHealth #DentalHealth #MastrovichDental #EscondidoDentist #SanDiegoDentist #ImplantMechanicalRescue #IMR #BrokenImplantAbutment #BrokenImplantScrew

Study: Exercising 11 minutes per day could lengthen life Research published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine found that just 11 minutes of daily exercise could lengthen life by helping prevent age-related conditions like type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease, CNBC reports. The study found that participants who counteracted sedentary activity with 11 minutes of moderate to vigorous daily exercise were less likely to die than those who engaged in just two minutes of exercise per day. #BeBrave #Believe #BeSafeSanDiego #OverallHealth #DentalHealth #MastrovichDental #EscondidoDentist #SanDiegoDentist #ImplantMechanicalRescue #IMR #BrokenImplantAbutment #BrokenImplantScrew

Unmanaged stress can lead to oral health problems Stress weakens the body's immune system, potentially causing inflammation in areas such as the mouth, and certain consequences of stress such as bruxism and nail biting may also directly affect oral health, a dentist tells PopSugar. These oral health issues should be treated by a dental professional as soon as possible, but the patient should also seek help from a mental health professional to discover and treat the root cause of stress. #BeBrave #Believe #BeSafeSanDiego #OverallHealth #DentalHealth #MastrovichDental #EscondidoDentist #SanDiegoDentist #ImplantMechanicalRescue #IMR #BrokenImplantAbutment #BrokenImplantScrew

Some TikTok Users Applying Vampire Fangs To Teeth With Nail Adhesive Insider (10/19, López) reports, As if using a nail file on your teeth wasn’t bad enough, TikTok users are now using nail adhesive, made up of the same ingredients as super glue, to secure their vampire fangs in for Halloween. In addition, videos of people struggling to remove the fangs are circulating on the platform. Insider cautions that pulling on the fangs could damage enamel, fracture teeth, or cause other dental problems and instead advises seeking care from a dentist.

Dental Visits Are Safe, Essential During ABC’s Good Morning America (10/19) show, medical correspondent Dr. Jen Ashton responded to viewers’ coronavirus questions, including whether it is safe to receive nonemergency dental care during the pandemic. The ADA and the CDC say dental care is considered essential health care, noted Dr. Ashton, and dentists have been taking extreme precautions since even before the coronavirus pandemic. With this in mind, you should not delay dental care, said Dr. Ashton. #SilverLining #BeBrave #Believe #BeSafeSanDiego #OverallHealth #DentalHealth #MastrovichDental #EscondidoDentist #SanDiegoDentist #ImplantMechanicalRescue #IMR #BrokenImplantAbutment #BrokenImplantScrew

Dentists weigh in on whitening mouthrinses Many mouthrinses promise teeth whitening, but only those containing peroxide -- which causes an oxidation process that targets stains on teeth -- are likely to help, dentists told Shape. Dentists warn that sensitivities can be worsened by whitening mouthrinses, noting that whitening performed by a professional is less abrasive, and they advise against using products that contain alcohol, which can cause mouth dryness. #OverallHealth #DentalHealth #MastrovichDental #EscondidoDentist #SanDiegoDentist #ImplantMechanicalRescue #IMR #BrokenImplantAbutment #BrokenImplantScrew

Studies Examine Relationship Between Oral Health, Colon Cancer The New York Post (10/10, Gray) reported that research suggests a common mouth germ may be associated with colon cancer. The article noted that this year, three studies focused on the relationship between the germ, Fusobacterium nucleatum, and colon cancer. The article added that biochemist Daniel Slade of Virginia Tech worked on one of those studies, which found colon cancer cells invaded by the germ became inflamed by two proteins called cytokines and the inflammation in turn caused the cells to travel. #OverallHealth #DentalHealth #MastrovichDental #EscondidoDentist #SanDiegoDentist #ImplantMechanicalRescue #IMR #BrokenImplantAbutment #BrokenImplantScrew

As we hiked to celebrate Thanksgiving, we reflected on the the holiday, what it means to us, what constants endure and what’s different. Whether your dinner table is a virtual one or if you’re lucky enough to spend time with family, Thanksgiving this year may look a little different than it has in the past. In a challenging year, we’re reminded how thankful we are for the many blessings in life: health of family, laughter with friends, embraces with loved ones and the strength of community. So take time to remember the people you love most, who love you in return and the warmth that this love provides. Happy Thanksgiving to all!! #Thanksgiving #MastrovichDental #EscondidoDentist #SanDiegoDentist

CDC Advises Against Traditional Trick-Or-Treating, Indoor Parties This Halloween To Prevent Coronavirus Spread USA Today (9/22, Yasharoff) reports the CDC announced Monday it advises against traditional trick-or-treating this year amid the novel coronavirus. The recommendation is part of a list of Halloween guidelines broken down by level of risk. USA Today adds, Door-to-door trick-or-treating, trunk-or-treating ‘where treats are handed out from trunks of cars lined up i...n large parking lots’ and indoor parties or haunted houses are among the riskiest Halloween activities when it comes to preventing the spread of COVID-19, the CDC says. Other activities to be avoided include hayrides or tractor rides with others, visiting fall festivals in other communities, and using alcohol or drugs, ‘which can cloud judgment and increase risky behaviors.’ The Hill (9/22, Hellmann) reports that in addition, the CDC released general guidelines for fall and winter holidays including Rosh Hashanah, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s, with considerations for traveling as well as hosting and attending gatherings. #BeBrave #Believe #BeSafeSanDiego #OverallHealth #DentalHealth #MastrovichDental #EscondidoDentist #SanDiegoDentist #ImplantMechanicalRescue #IMR #BrokenImplantAbutment #BrokenImplantScrew

Distinguishing COVID-19 From Flu, Other Seasonal Viruses May Be Difficult The Washington Post (9/4, Ellison) reported that on the verge of another flu season, Americans know a lot more about COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus. However, providers may be just as much in the dark when it comes to distinguishing it without a lab test for influenza or several other common seasonal viruses, including adenovirus or RSV. All of these illnesses often share init...ial symptoms that may include a cough, fever, fatigue and muscle aches. The CDC has listed dyspnea, or difficulty breathing, as one of only two symptoms (along with loss of taste and smell) not commonly shared with influenza. #BeBrave #Believe #BeSafeSanDiego #OverallHealth #DentalHealth #MastrovichDental #EscondidoDentist #SanDiegoDentist #ImplantMechanicalRescue #IMR #BrokenImplantAbutment #BrokenImplantScrew
