Assalamu alaikum Below is an email from CAIR concerning the safety of our community especially sisters. Salam... Always be aware of your surroundings whether alone or in a groups, be aware of the environment and look out for suspicious individuals. Don’t be a hero if confronted by an individual, keep in mind how you can contact the authorities to help you with the situationthat is their job. Whenever possible, travel in groups Walk with confidence, do not appear scared or helpless. Doing so makes you appear to be an easy target for attackers. Be careful in parking lots especially when its dark. Do not be shy to ask someone to escort you to your car. If you are used to using earphones/headphones, avoid using them in isolated areas because you cannot hear the approach of a possible attacker. Adults and children should not open the door of their home without checking who is at the door. Report any suspicious activity around your home, if you see strangers hanging around your home don’t be afraid to call the police. Do not park in areas that are not well lit and try to park as close to the entrance of your destination as possible. Do not approach your car if a suspicious person is hanging around it, get an escort or wait until they are gone. When walking or traveling anywhere, if you think you are being followed trust your instinct and change your route or walk faster. Avoid being alone with the person following you and inform the police as soon as possible. If you are in a dangerous situation, attract attention in anyway possible (e.g. honk your horn or describe what is happening in a very loud voice) If you get offensive or threatening phone calls do not respond to the caller, write down the date and time of the call, and call the police. For additional safety tips please refer to the CAIR Mosque Safety Guide at http://www.cair.com//publicat/CAIR_Mosque_Safety_Guide.pdf. A Letter of Solidarity and a Rose Assalamu alaikum Yesterday, our community received a letter of friendship and solidarity with a Rose of peace from a non- Muslim family. It is a nice gesture that reflects the harmony and dignity of many people around us who respect and love their neighbors and treat them as honored human beings. Although the senders do not embrace our faith, they share with us many values and principles like respecting others, justice, and freedom. They sent... their letter to oppose hatred and discrimination. We do appreciate their nice gesture and encourage ourselves to show compassion and kindness to people around us and to be steadfast as Muslims on the Deen/Islam.
