Ah yes April is diamond month as a birthstone. We jewelers can get quite creative in using them. This is an example of what I mean

Ok all you March babies. Your birthstone is Aquamarine. The name of the stone translated to mean "blue sea" which describes it's color. Aquamarine gems can be found in quite large sizes and are generally very clean in clarity and even in color distribution.... This very cool bracelet is a good example of how to use a large aquamarine in a striking design. Happy birthday to those who celebrate in March.

We at Martin's Jewelry like oval shaped stones. And we enjoy designing for them in any gemstone. Sometimes we mount them going across the hand (like this picture) rather than up and down.... We call this "east and west". And it can be quite attractive. What do you think?

The center stone on this ring I think is an interesting gemstone. It's called an Ametrine. The name is a combination of Amethyst and Citrine variety of gemstones and the colors are what we call zoned in one stone. Most are emerald cut like this on to show that zoning clearly. Believe it or not this is a stone. I think it was found in Central New Mexico. It has red agate, some white opal and various other minerals. Yeah I also grabbed a fork when I first saw it. Thought I would share. (safe to do since its not cake)

Even though sapphires come in a variety of colors people usually think blue. Here is an interesting layout of blue sapphires. Which one is your favorite?

Yes the July birthstone is ruby. Check out this beauty of a ring. I think its a great example that stones do not have to be faceted in cut to be beautiful. This cut on the center ruby is called a "cabochon" cut.

Many times people ask me as a jeweler what kind of jewelry do I myself admire. Here's an example of a ring that I came across that made me go wow. And I admired what went into it. I don't know the maker but wanted to share and tip my hat on a great piece!

Interesting jeweler fact is that bench jewelers would put some loose emeralds on their benches. It was thought that emeralds had healing powers for eyes. So when jewelers eyes would get tired they would take a moment and stare into the emeralds to soothe their eyes. If you own some give it a shot.
