We didn't forget the date! The full fishing opener is tomorrow, April 24th for fishing with bait and barbed hooks on the rivers, and the day of opener looks to be lovely! (We're not going to talk about Sunday...) Rivers have been stocked up by both the County and State, so there's plenty of fish to go around this weekend.

Good news! The Markleeville Creek, Crystal Springs, and Kit Carson Campgrounds open tomorrow April 23rd! Markleeville Creek and Crystal Springs are first come, first serve campgrounds with camp hosts. Kit Carson occasionally requires reservation for some of their spots, you can call 877-444-6777 or go to recreation.gov to reserve a spot.

One more before it's over! Toby and Isaac brought in this lovely trout from the East Carson. Thanks for bringing it in to show us! After a blustery Friday, the weather has cleared out and warmed up for a lovely closing weekend for the fishermen.

Due to the recent moisture, the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest has now lifted the previous Stage I and II Fire Restrictions. Fire managers would like to remin...d the public that it is still possible to spark a wildfire in some areas and not to get complacent, as many large fires have occurred during the fall or winter months in previous years. The Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest and our firefighters would like to thank you for your cooperation and support during a long and busy fire season.

It's going to be a little chilly this weekend! Caltrans will possibly close Highway 4, Ebbetts Pass, ahead of the storm Friday morning (this isn't its winter closure, just for the storm). Please keep an eye on their website so you're not caught on the wrong side of the pass. As we head into the winter season, you can always call (800) 427-7623 for the latest road conditions.

Our fisherfolk are on a roll this week! Alex brought in our THIRD 11 pound trout this morning using salmon eggs on the East Carson! It was a 25 minute fight to land it, but what a result! Congratulations!

Kiena, Jason, and Kailer Mattick brought in this gorgeous 7 pound trout! Dad Jason said they were using a 'squirmy wormy' fly, which is maybe one of the best fly names I've heard this season. Congrats guys!!

Denise Loo sent this picture in of a HUGE fish. She didn't say if it was her in the picture, but I will assume so. What a great catch! This is the second 11 pounder caught out of the East Carson. CONGRATULATIONS!!

Here's the fishing board for this week! One last bumper load was put into the East Carson yesterday, and we've already seen a ten pound whopper come out of there this morning! Chilly mornings are the norm now, so make sure to bring a pair of gloves if you're out there early!

CONGRATULATIONS Madeline on a great catch! Hi, I’d like to share a picture of my 12 year old niece Madeline immensely happy after she caught a 6 lbs 12 oz trout. This monster took line and her reel broke so she was forced to land this beauty by hand reeling the line in, it was an epic battle!

A Cinderella fish story, I'm afraid. I took a picture of this young man and his grandfather between other customers and forgot to ask their names! Doh! Hopefully one of them can comment on this picture and tell us their names, and what they caught their beautiful trout on!

The East Carson is absolutely packed with trout! The county and the state both planted yesterday, so come on up and enjoy some fall fishing.

Peggy did it again yesterday, but even bigger. This fish weighed in at 6.85 pounds! Great catch!

Another one for the books! Peggy Bristol caught this monster with a worm on the East Carson. It was a whopping 6 1/8 pound 23 1/2 inch beauty. Congratulations Peggy!

Wedge with the best catch of his life! Wedge brought in this 5.25 pound 20 inch fish caught on a jig in the East Fork of the Carson. CONGRATULATION!!

Monitor Pass color! Kristin sent these pics to me today of Monitor Pass (Highway 89), in all its glory. Looks like we are getting a lot of orange to red this year. Don't miss out, next week-end should be terrific!

The fishing board update, although a little late this weekend. Heenan Lake re-opened as of yesterday to zero limit fishing, which is very exciting! We heard there was quite the line to get in when the gate opened yesterday morning. The East Carson River received another load of fish Friday evening, so fishing on the river should be fantastic.

Wedge caught another 3 and 3/4 pounder, fresh from the river this morning. And he only had to wait a few weeks this time. :)

Jeff is at it again! He caught these three beauties this morning on the East Fork. From top to bottom, they weighed in at 5.5, 3 and 4 pounds. Will you smoke them? Let us know and feel free to share your recipes!

Hope Valley color. Jeff sent these pictures in from yesterday, 9/19. I am thinking these are from around Wylder (formerly know as Sorensen's), that is usually the first place to see the leaves change. Thanks for letting us know @Jeff Bovero.

Conditions are changing every day, but as far as we know this is what is open around us. The Carson River Resort and Turtle Rock Park Campground are not mentioned on the sheet, but both are open. Carson River Resort is not allowing campfires.

Rivers are open again! @Richard Darancette caught these 4 and 5 pound fish today on the East Fork. Smoke is thick, but the fish don't care! Nice catch Richard.

Dmitriy Timofeyer caught this beauty this morning. We don't have a weight for this one, as he'd already cleaned it up to be cold smoked back home, but it'll be delicious at any size I'm sure!

The Slink Fire as seen from Highway 88 on the Mesa. It has now moved into Bagley Valley. They are taking water from Heenan Lake, so consequently it is closed to fishing. These photos were taken last night. Tonight, we can see the smoke column from behind the store and the smoke is hanging over town.

Here is this weeks fishing board. The catch has been very good lately despite the low water levels. The fish that were put in yesterday, half of them are between 3 and 8 pounds each. There are some BIG fish in the river!

An FYI for our fly fishermen: if you were planning to visit Heenan Lake this weekend, it is now closed as of this afternoon so that firefighters can pull water to fight the Slink Fire.

Ugh, this smoke! It is really bad today. Very acrid. If you will be coming to the mountains this weekend, be extra careful with sparks and fire. Fire restrictions are in effect but remember even a tow chain can start a fire. Be careful and be safe.

The smoke from the Slink Fire is pretty bad this morning. We have escaped the majority of it for the last few days, but not today. This fire is just on the other side (Nevada side) of Monitor Pass -89 in Slinkard Valley. It has grown to 14,200 acres and is only 10% contained. Wedge caught this 3 3/4 pound fine fish on the East Fork of the Carson this morning, using Power Bait. "I've waited 9 months to catch a fish like this." Wedge says. Well, you have done it. Congratulations!

A nice start to the week! His first time to the area, this fisherman caught this lovely 3.5 pound Rainbow across from the Carson River Resort.

Fishing Board update! The East Carson has received another load of fish. Daytime temps are warm up here (for us, anyway), but nights are still cool and morning fishing has been fantastic on the East Carson River.

Cody and Patrick caught 3 great fish on the East Carson this morning with worms and eggs. The little guy not shown was 18" and 2 3/4 pounds. The other two were 19", 3 7/8 pounds and 19 1/2" and 4 pounds. Congratulations on your catches!

They're at it again! We posted their catches on June 7th, when they brought in an elusive German Brown caught in the West Fork. Today they caught these fish on the East Fork. Luck, or just good fishing? They say Good fishing! Congratulations again.

Mike and Rick Hobson with a 5 pound, 20.5 inch fish and he caught this within about 3 hours of buying his fishing license! Nice catch.

Great catch Bart, with your cheerleader Deuce! Bart caught this fish on the West Fork with a Pink Salmon Egg. It weighed in at just over 6 pounds. Bart says "It gave me quite the fight." CONGRATULATIONS!

Nice fish! Larry Bonsall caught this beauty on the East Carson with a Salmon Egg. It weighed in at 5 1/8 pounds and was 22 1/2 inches. Congratulations on a great catch!!!

Andrew caught this beautiful fish today on the East Fork of the Carson River with a worm. It was 22 3/4" and weighed 5 3/8 pounds. Great catch, Congratulations! We will see you next year with another great fish!

Our Fishing Board before the holiday weekend. The State and County both stocked on July 1st, so rivers are loaded with fish! We've been seeing several monster trout coming out of the river. Remember! July 4th falls on a Saturday, so it's a FREE FISHING DAY this year! You don't need a fishing license Saturday, although all other rules and regs remain in effect. Have a Happy Fourth!

Little Cory brought in a fish almost as big as him! 7.5 pounds and 24 inches long, using nothing but a worm on the East Carson. Great job Cory!

I think that this is the biggest fish caught so far this season. What a beauty! It was caught on the East Fork of the Carson and looks to be at least 24 inches and over 8 pounds. I wish I could have measured and weighed it. That is an awesome CATCH! Congratulations!!
