A word today about what we do and why we do it here in The Pressroom and Mercantile of @theboxsf and @theboxsfevents /Vintage! Please consider for a moment abou...t what you consistently see from us. Daily you see Ephemera, Books, Vintage Advertising, Stamps, Labels, Posters, Broadsides, Tins, Toys, Packaging, Type, Journals and Oddities that are in beautiful condition! I have personally scoured the world in Barns, Attics and small Shops for over 50 years now. I have built a network of dealers, collectors and others to source from. Much if not most of what I post is in 80% or better condition, and we may never see it again. We are having deep and painful discussions here, as to if we are going to survive this Pandemic and over a year of lost revenue. But when I, as a Graphic Designer, consider the wealth of material that we preserve, scan, record, share and sell it’s imperative that we continue for many reasons. The Pressroom and Mercantile of The Box SF, in my opinion, should be more than an archive, store or museum. We can and should be a place that inspires, educates, exhibits, sells and rescues All Things Printed, and we make it accessible to the world. There are now generations of young Designers, Illustrators, Typographers, Sign Makers, Art Director’s, Artists and Creatives who are born into an all digital world. Many of these Creatives have never seen, nor do they know much about a hand drawn Letter or Graphic, or how it was Created, Printed or used. Beautiful and sensitive Design and History is being lost daily. We believe we must have a role in changing that. We can look and like all day long. But to see the items we sell in an accessible way and Inspiring environment, and to hold something tangible is a far better and more valuable experience. Many years ago at Sackett Design and @reflectur_com my Graphic Design and Branding Agency, I designed a cool Mouse Pad plus Poster for A Printing Company with a...n illustration by Bob Kolar, to give out to our Clients and close Friends as a promotion. We then created and illustrated 10 more misfit Clowns in this series for a Children’s Book I wanted to produce! Recently while cleaning out my Archives I discovered loads of Treasures, including a number of those Mouse Pads and a few hundred 2 sided Posters! A Customer came in to the Store and fell in love with it and offered to buy one. Now that I discovered an entire box of them, I have decided to start selling them in the The Pressroom and Mercantile of @theboxsf and @theboxsfevents /Vintage! UPDATE FROM SAN FRANCISCO: I appreciate all the calls and texts and connections from each of you. I have been offline with my head down for a good while now, an...d it has not felt right or in my true nature. I remain active on Instagram primarily as The Box SF and THE PRESSROOM AND MERCANTILE AT THE BOX SF and a bit on Facebook, but with thousands of unread emails and hundreds of emails across all the sites and social media I use, I feel it's time for a quick update and reason (excuse) for my absence. First off, for anyone reading this, I am not proud or happy to admit that I have been crushed by the Pandemic. Two of my businesses destroyed and trying to survive and save our physical studios, a historic building we own in San Francisco (We are also actively looking to sell all or part of this spectacular and pristine building in the South of Market area of SF. My Store The Pressroom and Mercantile at The Box SF, remains open daily for now, and business is also slow as you might imagine. On top of that I am recovering from a badly fractured foot 19 months ago that is still broken in one place and continues giving me trouble, and a very recent full hip replacement surgery that has knocked me on my ass! So needless to say I am wayyyy behind. To the over 150 connections requests waiting in my inbox and the over 540 messages here alone, my sincere apology. Your requests have all been added, and sometime soon I hope to start making my way through the emails, and instant messages, including the 1000's of regular emails I need to attend to! I genuinely hope that hope everyone is staying safe and masked and that you are caring for those around you. I know so many people much worse off than me and I am as always more than happy to connect you all and to do whatever I am able to do for you right now. I typically have a big mouth and a lot of opinions and resources, but I realized finally, that right now I just need to take care of myself, get back to 1000 percent, and then continue my work. Finally, I miss you all, I miss our events, our interactions, our collective ideas for helping others and life as it used to be. Most of all I miss my Friendships! First off I hope you are all doing well. Second if you have been impacted with a loss through this Pandemic, my thoughts and my network are here to help in anyway we can. Personally, I have taken this Pandemic as an opportunity in so many ways to step back, finally work on my forthcoming Book called "Curiosity Thrilled the Cat" A story about living and building a Creative Life and Powerful, Sustainable Relationshi...ps. VENTING: I love life! I’ve never met a stranger. I like dumb videos, history, travel, music, art and drinking, and the scenic turnouts of life. I support others. I think we should all thrive and live large. I don't operate from FEAR, negativity, naysayers or critics; instead I stand up for my beliefs and my truth. I say what I think and support what I believe. I am not afraid of what you think of me, fear stalls us and makes us doubt ourselves! I support and love men and wom...en and could give a shit who you sleep with or marry. I think Women are smarter than Men. I think we should stop destroying our planet. I think we should laugh our asses off a lot more. I think we should stop looking at skin color and start seeing each other. I think we should vote most of our leaders out worldwide, they are not leading! I think we should stop telling ourselves we are NOT creative! I think we should speak and live our life purpose no matter what others wish we would say or do! Stop telling others what to do when your own little world is such a mess! Now you can sit and moan, complain, back seat drive, arm chair criticize or otherwise tear stuff down all you want, but your negativity, your bad attitude and your own inner voice is going to eat you alive eventually. When it does, those of us who care are gonna look at you on that day and say to you, "I'm so sorry, how can I help?" Do you know why? Because that's how we think, that's how we live when we are clear and live without fear. We all deserve to be loved, helped, cared for and healed...stop hating, bombing, shooting, dividing, judging, gossiping and talking under your damn breath. And stop blaming everyone else! Stand for something good and surround yourself with good people. No matter how bad it is for you or me right now, know that there are MILLIONS of people out there worse off, who do not have a tomorrow to look forward to. COVID 19 WNS IN 20! I’m selling my business and my beautiful historic building!

For my 5th Birthday my Grandparents on my Mom’s side gave me a box of Pencils each with the different Presidents of the United States. I cherished the Pencils so much that I hardly used them. Each time I chose to sharpen and began using one I took great pleasure in writing and mostly sketching with them. When I started Design School we did not have lockers, so we were required to carry a tackle box with all of our art supplies to our lab and portfolio classes! My Presidential Pencils were in mine! Today while cleaning out a box of trinkets, photos and those things you save, I found the last one of them!!! It’s small, but mighty, and I used it the rest of the day!

I like so many people had thriving businesses, we worked everyday to give people extraordinary experiences and then a Virus attacked the world.
