Good news: You don't have to miss out on a newborn session because of Covid! You all know I don't use this space often these days but I thought it worth an update to let you know how I am continuing to incorporate newborn work in my business. Change 1: Making Use of the Great Outdoors! Due to the need to socially distance and the latest changes in California pushing business outdoors, all of my sessions are outside! Outdoor newborn sessions are not new to me at all but I've ...found new ways to make them work even for those parents who would prefer a studio/prop look. Now parents get the best of both worlds: a gorgeous natural backdrop for family shots and shots of baby in nature AND the the studio look! Change 2: Parents become pro baby wrappers! I have incorporated parent wrapping coaching so that those adorable wrapped shots are still fair game without compromising on the social distance! Change 3: Parents get to use my best photography equipment when necessary! I also coach parents on how to take certain shots with my camera when the shot would require me to be closer than 6 ft to baby. I set up the camera prior to the shot. I then review the shot to make sure its perfect and provide additional coaching if necessary. All of these images were done in an outdoor park space in less than 90 minutes while maintaining social distance! The best part is these same techniques will transition well to new strategies when the weather cools down! Whether baby is already here or arriving in Winter, reach out. I'm happy to discuss detailed options for getting your newborn session while keeping baby safe!

I AM OPEN! I posted back in October that I was taking a social media break when it comes to business and for the most part I still am! With all the uncertainty in the world today, however, I did want to take a moment to update you and my pinned post on this page. Photographers in California have returned to outdoor work as part of the Phase 2 re-openings and I could not be more excited! Things are a little different now in that we are limited to outdoor locations and I have ...to keep my distance from my clients. That means a tiny bit of awkwardness and no more hands-on posing but still lots of fun and laughs and beautiful portraits for you and yours! For newborn sessions, I will guide parents through some natural positioning of baby outdoors - both in arms and wrapped in a prop. Right now there are a lot of people playing catch up on things like maternity sessions, senior sessions, and outdoor newborn sessions. This is also a great time to do your family session for the year! Its hard to predict what will happen in the Fall. Although photography feels very important and low risk to me, the fact is it is not essential and could be paused again in future shut downs. So seize the day is my advice! :) You can always find me at www.marisamcdonaldphotography.com and email at marisa@marisamcdonaldphotography See more
