As a soldier and a western explorer, John Fremont's nickname of "The Pathfinder" was well earned. During the Gold Rush, John and his wife Jessie moved to the li...ttle town of Bear Valley in Mariposa County, where John began finding new paths into national politics. In this episode of Mariposa Gold, we'll learn about the Fremonts, and how John and Jessie came to be one of Mariposa County's most powerful couples. #YosemiteNation Visit California

Phyllis Irene Faust left her Earthly body on the night of November 21st, 2020. While it’s been a shock and not what anyone expected, she leaves behind only the ...warmest thoughts and love for a woman who was stronger beyond strength. Phyllis has done so much for so many, led a life of value and virtue, gave birth to three children and mothered countless more. She welcomed her 7th grandchild, Ronin, just last month. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers at this time, just know that mom would not want anyone upset at her passing. She welcomed the next step in her journey and wanted everyone to celebrate that. Information for services will be announced at a later date.
The original man-made Firefall was an event where bonfire embers were pushed off the cliff at Glacier Point. The cascade of hot embers had the appearance of a g...lowing waterfall of light to those in the valley below. This spectacle continued on and off over the years until the last man-made Firefall in 1968. This Mariposa Gold episode looks at the history of the original man-made Firefall, and at an important artifact from the event's nightly ceremony that you can still see at the Mariposa Museum & History Center Inc. Do you remember the horn blowing, or the voice calling out in the night, "Let the fire fall!" or the original glowing Firefall? #YosemiteNation Visit California | https://www.yosemite.com/mariposa-gold (more about Mariposa Gold)

There are few people who have made a bigger impact on Yosemite National Park than Galen Clark. The first European American to discover the Mariposa Grove of G...iant Sequoia trees, a champion for their protection, and the first Guardian of the Yosemite Grant, Clark spent most of his life in service to the park. He is buried in the Yosemite Valley cemetery. This episode of Mariposa Gold examines Galen Clark, and an original handwritten document in the collection of the Mariposa Museum and History Center, relating to his role as Justice of the Peace in the Wawona area. Be sure to go by the museum and enjoy this remarkable community resource. #YosemiteNation
