Under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, CalFresh emergency allotments have been extended to increase food benefits in response to Coronavirus (COVID-...19) and its effects on the economy. If you have questions, give us a call at 209-966-2000. Effective April 1, 2021 a new policy for all CalFresh households has a minimum emergency allotment of $95 per month, regardless of household size. This change will be reflected in the April benefits issued during the month of May. Households eligible to receive the maximum allowable allotment based on household size are now eligible to receive an emergency allotment of $95 per month. Households who are not eligible to receive the maximum allowable allotment based on household size, but whose emergency allotment is less than $95 per month under the previous model, will receive additional CalFresh benefits to raise their emergency allotment to the new $95 minimum. Households who are eligible to receive more than $95 per month under the previous model will continue to receive that amount.

In 2019, Ranger Jason attended Yosemite Search and Rescue's swiftwater training to gain a firsthand experience in the dangerous conditions of the park's waters.... Watch to learn about his experience in the river. Remember, rivers in Yosemite are surprisingly swift, cold, and can be deadly. Don't approach the river, even to just take a photo or dip your feet in. Avoid walking on rocks close to the water; they are extremely slick. Please do your part to keep yourself safe while visiting Yosemite National Park.

Warmer weather is here, and our local creeks, rivers and lakes are a great way to beat the heat, but natural water current can be hazardous. Some basic safety tips are, enter the water feet first, limit impairment such as alcohol while swimming or relaxing in water, and use life jackets for kids and/or adults who may not be strong swimmers. Remember, water ways can be deceptive having strong currents under what appears to be a slow-moving surface. Every year emergency respon...ders are called to assist with adult and children who mistakenly underestimate the dangers of natural water ways. Please do your part to practice safety first while enjoying the beautiful waters of Mariposa County. Mariposa County Fire Department wishes all of you a safe and joyous swimming season, but if the need arises, we are trained to respond and assist. Mariposa County is proclaiming May 2021 as Older Americans Month with the theme Communities of Strength. We will be sharing information and posting ideas of d...ifferent ways you can celebrate throughout the month. Here are a few to start with (please share with any older Americans in your life): Look for joy in the everyday: Celebrate small moments and ordinary pleasures by taking time to recognize them. Start a gratitude journal and share it with others via social media or call a friend or family member to share a happy moment or to say thank you. Reach out to neighbors: Even if you can’t get together in person right now, you can still connect with your neighbors. Leave a small gift on their doorstep, offer to help with outdoor chores, or deliver a homecooked meal. Build new skills: Learning something new allows us to practice overcoming challenges. Take an art course online or try a socially distanced outdoor movement class to enjoy learning with others in your community. Have a skill to share? Find an opportunity to teach someone, even casually. Share your story: There’s a reason storytelling is a time-honored activity. Hearing how others experience the world helps us grow. Interviewing family, friends, and neighbors can open up new conversations and strengthen our connections. Please remember, the smaller the gathering is, the lower the risk for COVID-19. When possible, aim to keep activities with the same small group of people to keep your risk low while socializing. COVID-19 risk decreases significantly when you are vaccinated and gathering with others who are vaccinated. Follow all state and local health guidelines. Check your state health department for safety information. Read the latest CDC guidance on events and gatherings.
