Dear Elk Grove Unified Students, Parents and Families, This midweek update is meant to provide some clarification regarding yesterday’s launch of the Parent In...put and Preference Information for the 2020-21 School Year Survey and an update regarding co-curricular and extra-curricular activities focused on athletics. An EGU Update is available on the District’s website that explains the purpose of the above mentioned survey. A few glitches have come to the District’s attention and an immediate response was taken to address the situation. [Click here for the EGU Survey Update: http://blogs.egusd.net//elk-grove-unified-asks-parents-to/] One particular concern with the survey had to do with the fourth parent preference for an alternative whereby the EGU Update clarifies, Regarding the fourth option, Elk Grove Unified does not encourage families or students to leave the District. It is the District’s mission to serve 100 percent of its families. Families who select this option will not be automatically withdrawn and like the other three preferences, the data collected will help the District plan scheduling and staffing needs. With regard to the District’s return to athletics plan, please know that this week, a thorough multi-phase plan was submitted to Sacramento County Public Health for approval. The plan follows public health guidelines for COVID19, and includes mandatory training for coaches, specific rules for social distancing and numbers of participants, and other safety concerns such as cleaning and hand washing. The plan is expected to be approved for phasing-in beginning the week of June 22nd. The approved plan will be communicated to all families and made available on the EGUSD Athletics website. As we await approval, and sites and coaches prepare for the first phase of reopening, families can get ready as well. As always, in order to participate in school athletics, even during Phase 1, according to CIF bylaw section 503G, it is required that a student receive an annual physical examination conducted by a medical practitioner certifying that the student is physically fit to participate in athletics. The physical must be completed after May 1, 2020 of the school year in which the athlete plans to compete. Therefore, students are encouraged to obtain their physical exam if their previous physical exam documentation has expired or they are a new athlete. Please also know that guidance regarding other extra-curricular and co-curricular activities, such as band, dance, flag teams, etc. will soon follow. Further sports scheduling guidance is expected from the California Interscholastic Federation on July 20, 2020. Tomorrow, Friday, November 22, All students will be on a Minimum Day. Students. All Kindergarten and TK students will be on the AM schedule, 8:30 am - 11:50 am. Grades 1st - 6th will be dismissed at 1:00 pm. Please make arrangements. Next week there is no school for the Thanksgiving break. Classes resume on Monday, Dec. 2.

Please note that our school will be on Minimum Days starting tomorrow, Friday, November 15 and continue through all of next week. All students in grades 1st - 6th will be dismissed at 1:00 pm. Please make arrangements for your child to get home! Kindergarten and TK will remain on their normal schedule. There will be no school for the Thanksgiving Break during the week of November 25 - 29.
