Remember a couple of days ago when we posted about #cafezuni going #tipfree because management decided the #woke and #equitable thing would be to verbalize about the evils of tips while ACTUALLY REDUCING the income of staff? Well apparently a place that was on the vanguard of no tipping is changing the model, again. It is May 23rd, 2021 but you could be forgiven for thinking it was the 1970s all over again. #Inflation is coming. There are low #workforce participation numbers. And... in #Marin county as usual people are denying reality. Rather impressively the #MarinGOP website collected a quasi heckler. They want to know "what other countries" do about #homelessness and have less "me me me".... The comment didn't make much sense. But internet comments often don't have much nuance. But it... made us think... Loads of people love those straw man arguments about "what other countries do"? Well.... it is great to learn from others. Both negative and positive examples can shape your own choices. But we really need solutions in the here and NOW for Marin County problems. We don't have the option of a "Yemen Solution" or a "Bulgarian Solution"... we need a Marin County solution. As usual the county is in a state of denial about the exponential increase in park and sidewalk homeless encampments. Guess what? Get out of Marin sometime. Go to a place like Kansas City. Why does Marin have beggars in the parking lots of the supermarkets? Kansas City doesn't. How come you can't picnic in the park by the Novato Library anymore? Well... the public park has now become the private residential area of a couple of dozen people. There is trash in the stream. And... It is May 22, 2021 and #memorialday is coming. Frankly, #memorialday should be every day. Some things, and definitely some people, should never be forgotten. As a country we've turned our sacred #holidays into opportunities to shop. We don't ask often enough what the price of our freedoms actually is. Because we actually do have freedoms. My great grandfather whose name is carved on a granite slab and can home old before his time from foreign shores, and everyone since. They all deserve more respect than one day a year. It is May 6th, 2021 and in case you haven't noticed #racism is now a big deal in America. Fake claims of "racism" are apparently a way at least one schoolteacher in the LA basin tries to get out of getting a ticket. Watch the video... A teacher caught using a cellphone while driving --which is actually a moving violation in California-- threatens the deputy who pulls her over, calls him a "racist" and a "murder"... all to get out of a ticket. (She also derides the deputy's Me...xican heritage.) Ooooops.... The teacher got caught on video. But don't be too gleeful. This woman is teaching her hate and her inherently unethical behavior to children. Should people like this be teaching? Is someone like this teaching in YOUR community? Maybe it is time to do something about the school system? Just saying.... This piece from the SF Chron represents the "best and brightest" of our local educational system. Hey... maybe zoom classes in which desperate teenagers and appearance obsessed "educators" parse over the "look" of events and obsess about #mitten #privilege will prepare kids for adult life. We suspect not however.... If this is what the modern classroom is the San Francisco Bay Area is preparing teenager...s to slouch towards an appearance obsessed future devoid of facts, reason --it is COLD IN D.C in January!!!!!! Bernie Sanders is no Spring Chicken, and pretty much EVERYONE in New England dresses like that in January-- or basic compassion. The woke warriors of San Francisco have now taken to picking on old men --in the middle of a pandemic!-- for wearing mittens outdoors and keeping their distance! Silly us.... if the "pandemic" is such an existential threat to physically healthy young schoolteachers that the teachers need to "teach" by zoom, isn't it more of a threat to a man of Bernie Sanders' advanced years? It is February 3rd, 2021 and at Marin GOP we are worried about the individual cost of the state deciding to save money by releasing certain prisoners early. At MarinGOP we care about individuals and we hope innocent individuals NEVER become the victims of crime. But we think we may be facing a coming crime wave. At Marin GOP we like to focus on the victims of crimes rather than the perpetrators. These days it is fashionable to talk about "prison population reduction"... howev...er, sometimes we need to confront the INDIVIDUAL and sometimes TRULY AWFUL crimes some individual prisoners have been convicted of. In California the Governor --or his office-- has the ability to step in and halt the early release of some prisoners... In a case involving a gang member who tortured, sexually molested and murdered a teenager in Tulare County back in 2001 the Governor decided to allow the early release of the prisoner in question in January of 2021. Throughout 2020 the Tulare prosecutor's office was advocating on behalf of the victim... but in January of 2021 the Governor's office decided not to block the release of the convicted killer. Maybe California residents will get lucky and ICE will be allowed to deport the killer (the killer was not and is not a citizen). But he may be back on a California street in your neighborhood some day soon. One of our resident trolls may attempt to change the conversation saying... "Why should Marin care about Tulare?" Well... guess what.... people travel. This is merely ONE case involving a hardened criminal who will now be breathing free air. The question, as the state attempts to save money by reducing the prison population, is how many innocent citizens will become future victims as a result? Blame the Software! Technical Fails in California's Vaccine Roll-Out: California is famous for being the home of the tech revolution... but apparently Gavin Newsom's inner circle is incapable of finding a decent piece of software to "co-ordinate" the vaccine roll out. Apparently California actually DOES have vaccines available... but on a statewide basis being considered "eligible" for a vaccine is left to the software. Even the San Francisco Chronicle --usually a newspaper that cuts Newsom a lot of slack-- thinks there is something a little questionable about blaming the software. Where's the Money? State Coronavirus Un-Employment Benefits Misappropriated: This is a wonky story... but it isn't just about money, it is about REAL Californians suffering. Shut-down put a lot of Californians out of work in 2020. This past summer the news was filled with stories about regular people newly unemployed attempting to file for benefits and facing endless waits. Turns out that people serving hard time in prison were successfully working the system to FRAUDULENTLY claim benefits. So... the system is a mess and oddly the Governor doesn't seem to care. For those who can not remember what life was like before about 2019 believing in the #FirstAmendment used to be a non partisan position.
