SENIOR SPOTLIGHT Let’s all welcome Poolee Robert I. Salcedo, Class 2021 Westminster High School, to the United States Marine Corps Delay Entry Program! Originally when looking into the Marine Corps I was looking at the Reserves. I knew the Marine Corps Reserves would be essential part of my future, because my goal is to become a Police Officer like my uncle at the Garden Grove Police Department.... Salcedo is looking forward to graduating high school and being able to finally starting his life. I can’t wait to finally embark on this journey. I can’t wait to get out of this town and get the chance to see and experience new things. Salcedo is enlisting with the Marine Crops to experience a challenge that he hasn’t face yet. He will learn what it means to be truly disciplined and strong hearted. Salcedo loves to wrestle and play football at Westminster High School mainly because they are contact sports and it gives him an adrenaline rush when it kicks in. Now on to the Great American Rivalry Series Madden Challenge Tournament. In our run up to the MADDEN event scheduled to begin soon, there is real interest in participating, but a fixed schedule of qualifiers was presenting issues for some of the participants. So, we listened and responded. Here is the new plan. Instead of 72 individual area qualifying tournaments scheduled at specific times over six weeks that play into the Championship, we will now have all 72 areas register to play in one mega National Tournament which will take place the entire week of Nov. 16. Had an amazing opportunity to volunteer at @westminster_ffa by Westminster High School. The @californialovedrop supports and fuels healthcare workers and first responders by providing meals, beverages, treats, and supplies to hospitals, medical centers, fire departments, police stations, grocery distribution centers, and more. California Love Drop provide smiles and much needed relief. The deliveries have gone to several local families and organizations from Los Angeles to S...an Diego, including CHOC Children’s Hospital, UCI Medical Center, Hoag Hospital, UCLA Medical Center, San Bernardino Community Dignity Hospital, Dodger Stadium Testing Site and numerous police stations and firehouses. Not only did the volunteers impacted several families, but we all had an opportunity to meet new people from all walks of life! We shared stories, learned more about the community and collaborated for future events to help those in need. Community support is more important than ever. Colin Phan grew up in his hometown of Santa Ana for 12 years until 6 years ago when he moved to Garden Grove where he now lives. Phan is 18 years old, and his passions in life involve gaming and musical arts. The reason why Phan joined the Marines is because he wanted a change for himse...lf. Phan was frustrated of being the same person and wanted to make a change. Many people brought Phan down throughout his life making him feel less of a person, and always making him believe he wouldn’t achieve success in life. By being told these negative comments he chose to make a change to prove them wrong. The first step Phan took was in the summer of 2019, where he worked out with his recruiters and lost 50 pounds. When Phan returned back to school, his critics couldn’t believe the difference he had made. Phan realized that by taking the first step for change he could do more. Phan had a moment of realization, Do not let other people’s opinions of you dictate who you are. You have the power, and it’s up to you to change who you are for the better. . . . . .
