If you have been hiking around Toro Park and enjoying the wildflowers, you may have gotten a glimpse of a rarity: California Fire Poppies. Fire Poppies only blo...om after a fire and they are blooming now in some of the park’s burn scar areas. Since last summer’s fire was the first in over a century in this area, these seeds have been in the ground for 100 years and finally have a chance to bloom, a beautiful sign of recovery. If you get a glimpse, enjoy the sight. Please don’t pick these flowers or go off marked trails, which can be dangerous right now. See more

There are other Puya species that grow well here. Don’t have to wait so long for the flowers either!

Home Depot Seaside had this display out with bare root roses recently. Sadly this Bayer product is a known bee and good bug killer and has no place in a healthy garden. Just thought you should know. Here is some background and list of other products to avoid that affect pollinators. https://environmentamerica.org/go-bee-friendly

Grace is cleaning her worm bin! The worms will dive down to bottom of the pile, and she will scrape off the compost to put around her fruit trees. She feeds her worms food scraps from the kitchen and cardboard. Worms return to the box to continue to feast.

Gardener Colleen would like to pass on her pittosporum plants. You will need to contact her and come dig them up. Pittosporum plants that have potential to grow much taller. They’ve been in the ground for a few years but gophers have snacked on their roots a bit. I’m not sure how they’ll do being transplanted, but it’s worth a shot. Please plan to wear a mask and bring a shovel. We’ll remove some, you remove some. They shouldn’t be difficult to remove.... Learn more here: https://www.smgrowers.com/products/plants/plantdisplay.asp
