Surprising discovery: Unknown fruit tree that flowers in January Update: the name of the tree is Callery pear and it is an invasive species in certain areas, not in California though. I see this tree on my morning walk every day. I watch it flower since the end of November. First I was thinking that it would realize that it's getting toward winter season and not summer and drop the flowers. But no , it has been just ignoring the seasons! Today is January 4th and I took s...ome pictures this morning. I guess the fact that we have rain for the past few days and freezing temperature 3 days ago did not affect this tree's intention to flower. It has some kind of fruits that are shaped as cherries with the skin of pears. The fruits are brown because they got frost bite and are dead now. Obviously, the fruits have much better understanding of when they should or should not ripe. Flowers... those cuties simply don't care... and I don't mind because I enjoy seeing them. See more

My favorite today: Echeveria 'Enfant' f. variegata https://margaritaslittleshop.com/mygarde/yellow-variegation This impressive echeveria grows in my garden for over a year. I got it when it was 3"-4" in diameter. Look at it now! It's at least 9" now. The variegated color is yellow and it becomes lighter when exposed to more sun. Notice that leaves on one side have higher contrast than on the opposite side. This is because they are positioned perpendicularly to morning sun... rays. Leaves on the opposite side have different angle to the source of light and don't get as exposed. It grows in a very big pot under kumquat tree. That's why I cannot turn it and give each side equal exposure. Nevertheless, the plant is beautiful as it is. I like the tiny red claws on each leaf and a thin red line along the edges of the leaves. It just gives special appeal to the plant. I believe that more sun exposure would increase the amount of red. The surrounding plants are mostly crassulas - my favorite type of succulents.

Update: I have re-posted this listing on Dec 28 when I regained access to my website and was able to upload pictures. Heads up: I am listing these plants on Facebook in just a moment. I have login issues with my website and do not know when the technical team will contact me to help. Until that is resolved I cannot add pictures to this listing even though it is active there. So, I am reverting to the old way - invoices and claiming plants in the comments. :)... Links... My favorite today:Echeveria 'Suyon' f. variegata https://margaritaslittleshop.com//ordinary-variegated-suyon This is one of my favorite plants and not just today! I don’t know what took me so long to have a photo session with it! But for sure taking pictures of my other variegated and crested Suyon... https://margaritaslittleshop.com/myg/extraordinary-mutation... ...made me realize that this beauty stayed without proper attention for too long! Honestly, I have not seen Echeveria ‘Suyon’ f. variegata of this size for sale, since I have it, or . I forgot how big it was when I got it 18 months ago. My favorite part is the yellow-orange hues that this specific plant has. When it gets stressed out more, it loses the vivid colors and becomes either too red or the yellow turns into washed white. The leaves of this specimen start with a little tip and then become rounder. The variegated and crested Suyon from my previous post does not have leaves of this proper shape, instead its leaves are pointy with longer whitish tips, which is just different and not typical for Suyon. I love the transparency of variegated parts of the leaves! The pot is 5.5, so the plant is about 4 in all directions. I have a regular (not crested or variegated) Echeveria Suyon too, which will go on sale on Christmas. The size of the rosette is much bigger than this one, so I’m expecting this baby to grow more and become even more impressive! It has such a robust stem! Each leaf leaves a long horizontal mark after drying and falling off. Whish you to stay as beautiful and healthy as you are now, my lovely Suyon! And, BUGS, you just keep away from it!

My favorite today: Echeveria 'Suyon' f. variegata cristata https://margaritaslittleshop.com/myg/extraordinary-mutation Absolutely rare and gorgeous plant! I did not have an intention of keeping it, but then... as it established and started showing its true beauty, I could not let go of it! It has found its permanent home! I have received this plant as a variegated Suyon with one regular head - it is a single root for all heads. However, as the plant started growing, ...the shape of the leaves - pointy and wavy, as well as the size of each head made me think that I deal with a rare mutation , which I will call variegated and crested at the same time. Although, the confusing part about being crested is that each tiny rosette has a definite growing center. A crested plant is not suppose to have this - it should be a leaf mess instead of rosettes. And yet, look at it , instead of growing variegated rosettes bigger, the plant just increases their number. I do not know whether it will eventually grow out of it and start developing large variegated rosettes as expected. On the other hand, I do know that the shape of the leaves is very atypical for Suyon. So, whatever additional mutation it has, it makes it even less common as a specimen. My conclusion is that bigger rosettes or not, this plant will never become a common variegated Suyon, which for sure pleases me. I love rare plants! P.S. Note to myself: next time, I need to post about my variegated Suyon, which has a usual large rosette.
