Call the doctor, this baby is about to come out!! A large section of the hull has been cut open, and rigging is in place. Next up: crane operations to remove the damaged starboard propulsion motor and swap in the replacement.

In order to swap out the motor, we need to cut a hole in the starboard side of the ship. So, we squeezed up against the drydock wall on the port side to give ourselves enough room. We have inches to spare!

#FridayfromtheField As you might imagine a propulsion motor that fits the Coast Guard's longest cutter, is going to be big. So big in fact that workers at the U....S. Coast Guard Yard in Baltimore had to disassemble a warehouse building to pull it out of storage. The motor was craned onto a barge to begin its long journey, including a transit through the Panama Canal, en route to the west coast to be installed on the Healy. The cutter will undergo repairs in a Vallejo, California dry dock facility where the motor will be replaced once it arrives. A propulsion motor onboard the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Healy caught fire Aug. 18, 2020, while the ship was supporting a scientific patrol in the Arctic. 's by Lt. Cmdr.
