Manna Gallery is pleased to present our first show for 2021. Tents and Towers, recent works by Marin artist Janet Bogardus, opens Saturday. January 23 and continues to Saturday, March 6. A meet and greet for Janet occurs on Saturday, January 30, from 2 4pm, when she will be present to greet visitors and discuss her latest work. Janet says this about her work, I am fascinated with cities, in all their contradictions In the series Tents and Towers I invite you to feel bo...th realities, the sublime and the degraded, as they occur in our present moment. And I also ask you to question which are most alive, persistent, and creative - the splendid but impersonal and looming towers of downtown, or the tenacious, quirky, bedraggled encamp-ments of the unhoused. Janet Bogardus is a San Francisco Bay Area painter and mixed-media artist. Since 1989, she has exhibited her work at a variety of venues in California and New York, including solo exhibitions at Manna Gallery in Oakland, Benicia Arts Presents, Contra Costa College, and Marin Museum of Contemporary Art. Manna Gallery’s last show for a challenging 2020 features new fused glass artwork by Mark Lightfoot and mosaic sculptures and wall pieces by Berkeley artist Wilma Weiss. Opening Saturday, Oct. 31 and continuing to December 18. Mark and Wilma will be at the gallery Saturday, Nov 7 from. 12-5pm to meet visitors and discuss their newest body of work. New Exhibition Dreaming City: Installation by Dan Weber... Manna Gallery is pleased to announce Dreaming City, a special installation by Dan Weber which will use the entire gallery’s space. The exhibition opens Saturday, September 5 and continues until Saturday, October 24. In Daniel Weber’s installation, Dreaming City, the themes within the novel Invisible Cities, by Italian writer Italo Calvino, (an imagined conversation between the great ruler Kublai Khan and the Italian explorer Marco Polo), are explored through text, audio/visual and construction, complimenting Calvino’s surrealistic vision of the ephemeral quality of ambition, conceit, and empire. Inspiration for Bay Area visual artist Daniel Weber’s multi-media installations owe much to his earlier play-writing career. Mr. Weber especially enjoyed working with set, lighting, and sound designers - artists who created magical, all-encompassing environments that drew the audience into new and imagined worlds. These theatrical, transformative environments motivated Mr. Weber to create immersive audio/visual/literary worlds in a gallery setting.
