Here's a dose of good news! "Twenty-five years after gray wolves returned to Yellowstone National Park, the predators that some feared would wipe out elk have instead proved to be more of a stabilizing force." Check the comments for the full article.
Seeing a wild animal from afar is a truly magnificent experience. But what do you do if one accidentally gets up close and personal? If you come face to face with a wild animal like a bobcat, cougar, coyote, or fox, do not run. Stand your ground, wave your arms to look big and make noises to scare them away. Give them a way to escape. These animals are naturally afraid of humans but they will attack if cornered, startled, feeling defensive, or if given a very attractive oppur...tunity. If you encounter a gator, however. Do run. If you fell into the water, get out right away. Alligators can move fast but they don't usually like to, especially on land. They also prefer to ambush rather than give chase. Part of respecting wildlife is not feeding them and having as few interactions as possible. It's safer for both the human and the animal. When camping, always store food and food wastes properly. When hiking, stay alert and be wary of blind corners. If you see a wild animal in the distance, do not approach. Happy and safe camping!
Did you know that: ~Tigers are the largest living cats today. ~They can weight up to 550 pounds! Major chonk.... ~Unlike most cats, tigers love the water. They are powerful swimmers. ~Tigers can hunt by mimicry. They imitate the call of other animals to attract prey. ~Tigers are classified as endangered. Fortunately, conservation initiatives are showing great promise. Tigers are a keystone species. They're integral to the health of the ecosystems in which they live. When we protect tigers, we protect ourselves. Help protect tigers and raise awareness by celebrating International Tiger Day!
Quarantine vibes. Laundry all done, toys in the yard, jammies all day, and getting fat on experimental snacks. It's been an unforgettable year so far that has brought fear, uncertainties and frustration...but also bonding, laughter, love and a healing Earth. Here's to getting back on the road soon!
