Scoliosis Support

I like that Dr McClendon mentioned several times that the scoliosis surgeries are becoming less invasive, that not everyone with scoliosis needs surgery, and that he is an advocate of patient education. Although he doesn’t mention alternative (non-surgical) therapies in scoliosis intervention, he does mention muscle imbalances as a possible cause of progression. He does seem open to new ideas and developments. I’m encouraged and hopeful that one day Pilates and Yoga therapists will work side by side with medical doctors, nationwide and worldwide, as partners in scoliosis treatment. My Scolio-Pilates mentor, Karena Thek, has already pioneered this model by establishing a Scolio-Pilates treatment center in the Dayton Children’s Hospital. Let there be a new era of collaboration and treatment for people of all ages with scoliosis !
