It’s bittersweet for Black and independent boo...kstore owners such as Muslims like Malik and April Muhammad. As much as they welcome the increased number of sales, they believe it’s come at the cost of Black lives being snuffed out by police violence. Malik Books opened in 1990 and relocated to the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Mall two years ago. It carries a significant collection of African American and children’s literature and books on Islam and other works by Muslims.
