I am sharing this from Marissa at waste management: In response to numerous comments posted by Capay Valley residents, I wanted to provide follow-up so that everyone has the correct facts regarding the new recycling and organics collection services. As the chairs for the advisory committees in these areas, I’d like to ask that you please send this email out to your entire committee as well as share the email below at each of your next community meetings whether held v...irtually or in person. Since I am not a member on your social media community groups, I was unable to respond through that channel. My response is as follows: In 2019, prior to the implementation of the new program, these were the Waste Management, Inc. (WM) rates: 96 gallon trash cart + recycle cart + 1 bulky waste per year = $36.26/mo. 64 gallon trash cart + recycle cart + 1 bulky waste per year = $29.93/mo. 35 gallon trash cart + recycle cart + 1 bulky waste per year = $27.68/mo. In 2020 under the new program, these are the new WM rates: 96 gallon trash cart + recycle cart + 2 bulky wastes per year + organics cart = $38.73/mo. 64 gallon trash cart + recycle cart + 2 bulky wastes per year + organics cart = $33.50/mo. 35 gallon trash cart + recycle cart + 2 bulky wastes per year + organics cart = $31.64/mo. Rate Differences: 96 gallon = $38.73-36.26 = $2.47 increase but includes an additional bulky waste coupon and an organics cart 64 gallon = $33.50-29.93 = $3.57 increase but includes an additional bulky waste coupon and an organics cart 35 gallon = $31.64-27.68 = $3.96 increase but includes an additional bulky waste coupon and an organics cart I would ask that all residents review their January/February 2020 WM statements which show that every resident received at minimum a $5/month savings. If you were a resident outside of the densely populated areas of town and had WM services all environmental fees and fuel surcharges also went away which saved these residents approximately 26% on their garbage bill each month. Please look at the picture as a whole not in pieces. While it is accurate that the new organics program costs $8.74/mo., when coupled with the $5/mo. savings on trash that the County negotiated to minimize the impact of the new state mandate, this does in fact result in an approximate increase of $3/mo.
