Photography Club students at Macbeth Academy recently put on a Photography Student Showcase! We asked Ms. Buntrock, English and Social Studies Teacher and head of Photography Club, about the Showcase. Here's what she had to say: "The photography club consisted of three very creative photographers with a variety of experience with photography, from beginner to intermediate. All of them had a passion for taking pictures! One of the things I tried to stress with them was that t...hey can create wonderful photos with just their phone because the lenses in an iPhone or in a similar phone are very advanced. We explored several genres of photography to start: self-portrait, portrait, street photography, nature and "forced perspective." We looked at the work of professional photographers in each of these genres that they might want to explore further, learned about elements like composition and perspective, then tried to apply those concepts to our own photos. Then students brought their photos to class and talked about them." We'll be sharing more highlights from this interview in the coming days. Thanks again, Ms. Buntrock!

We are going through collective changes right now. Remember to be empathetic; your students are experiencing these changes and may have additional unknown home life difficulties. Be kind, flexible, and understanding, and you will have better results from your students.
With distance learning, you won't be able to see your students for 6+ hours each day. That means checking in regularly, and staying in contact with your students with whichever chat tool you use. It's better to over-communicate than under-communicate!
Next week is Spirit Week at Macbeth Academy! Join us in celebrating the season by dressing up every day!
The future is now! Google Forms is a great tool for distance learning - you can easily create quizzes and input your own question/answer combinations to monitor students' progress.
Distance learning can be filled with distractions. Try to find a quiet place in your home for work. Make sure the area is well-lit and not a high-traffic area. We also don't recommend working from bed; this can lead to worse sleep at night.
Scheduling a time to check in is helpful for both you and your student. They know that this is a good time for them to ask any questions or make any suggestions that they may have, and you know to be available during this time for them!
It helps to be prepared! Getting a lesson plan done is an important part of any teachers week. The further out you can map your schedule, the better - you'll be able to gather materials, prepare your student, and stay more on top of day-to-day activities.
Macbeth Academy has plenty of experience with distance learning, and we've compiled some tips to help those of you (especially parents) who are new to this great education method. With some flexibility, planning, and hard work, your student is guaranteed to be successful.
For Earth and Energy Month, we wanted to remind our followers of the importance of buying local, when able! Buying locally greatly decreases transportation emissions, while supporting the local economy. If you have access, bring your child to the Farmers Market in your area!
Lead by example! Kids copy what they see. When teaching your child about our planet, show them what YOU do to conserve! Reduce or eliminate the use of single-use plastics in your home, or start walking or riding your bike to nearby places. You can start slow, or you can dive in.
An often overlooked way to protect the planet is to work on conservation. Truly, this is one of the simplest ways to teach your child about environmental protection! Show them how to reduce their waste. Sit down with them and brainstorm ways you can conserve together!
Another great impact you can have on your child's environmental education? Teach them about littering. Littering can cause harsh chemicals to leach out into the soil and nearby bodies of water, and can pose a threat to wild animals.
A great way to introduce conservation practices to your children is to show them the difference between garbage and recycling! Have them help break down recyclables and put them in the correct bin, and show them which plastics are recyclable. Go more in depth with older kids!
October is Earth and Energy Month at Macbeth Academy! Join us in discussing conservation practices that you can integrate easily into your lifestyle, and ways to help inspire your kids to be curious about the environment.
Another tip for homeschoolers? Use your resources! There are so many free programs available to children. Macbeth Academy Fall Programs are free and there are many to choose from! Head to our website for more information. #MacbethAcademy
We only have one planet! Let's protect it. Teaching your children about protecting the environment from a young age makes it second nature to them as they get older! #MacbethAcademy
When you begin your journey with #DistanceLearning, remember to stay flexible. There is an adjustment period, and it looks different for every child! One of the great benefits of online school is that you can adjust your child's schedule depending on their needs each day.
Another #distancelearning tip from #MacbethAcademy: Plan the day with your child. Outlining what the day will look like can help your child feel more stable and safe, which is so important during these unprecedented times. Having them help you create the schedule can be fun, too!
Another tip from Macbeth Academy: Involve the family! Homeschooling means that you'll be mixing your "home" and "school" lives a bit more. The more everyone is involved in the planning and implementation of a schedule, the easier it will feel! #MacbethAcademy #DistanceLearning

With #DistanceLearning it can be easy for the hours to blend together. Here is a great little chart to have your students fill out at the end of the day! It can feel like a journal or it can be more formal. #MacbethAcademy
Here's tip #1: Stay in touch with your teacher! Your child's teacher has lots of advice and can provide support and get you in touch with other parents. Having open communication with the teacher helps make sure that your student will be successful in their class! #MacbethAcademy
